Détails additionnels:
Draft Moritz Seider... long-term replacement for Risto. Defensively responsible, future 1st pairing defenseman alongside Dahlin for next decade. It is a move that both supports our youth movement and gives them a least a year to improve Risto's value for a future trade when Seider is ready to come in. This trade wouldn't have to be with the Stars or include these pick/players, but can be with any team willing to trade picks 15-20

Seider might not last that long. He is climbing up the boards and might be the second D taken after Byram. There looks like there could be a run on D in the teens. Seider , Soderstrom, York, broberg, Harvey....

What pick do you think the Sabres would need to get to for him?

This draft is going to be a little unpredictable with value from 3-15 not that far off. It ultimately comes down to preference. I honestly could see him going as early as 8 to EDM. They always need D and Byram should def be gone by then. It just matters if they go for need or if they go BPA and feel someone else has a higher grade

Go the opposite way with the draft, Trade the 7th overall for MTL first (15th OA), MTL 2nd (44th OA), VGK 2nd (48th OA) and MTL 3rd (77th OA) and draft:
Use the shot gun approach. Botterill continues his pattern from 2018 draft and drafts European defensemen:
Victor Söderström D (instead of Moritz Seider) pick 15 OA
Tobias Björnfot D pick 31 OA
Ville Heinola D pick 46 OA
Nils Höglander D pick 48 OA
Daniil Misyul D pick 77 OA
Botterill drafts mainly defensemen as he did last year and mainly non Canadian Juniors and gets 5 of the top 11 European skaters (as ranked by NHL.Com)
Of course this is a bit of a joke, I think with Pilut and Montour we will start the season with a much better defense than we had at last years draft and would not need to draft 5 defensemen.
I would not trade Ristolainen, he is the same age when Chara, Burns, Hedman, and Weber became consistently good. If we trade him now we may receive very little, if he does not improve, that will not decrease by much. If he can be nearly as good as the 4 I mentioned then he and Dahlin would be an amazing pair.

I think ideally they need a long term RHD to pair with Dahlin, so that takes everyone but Soderstrom and Seider off the board in this range. I would rather keep 7 and not get either of them than trade back. I think Soderstrom goes between 11-14 before Seider. I think trading the 31st overall and whatever other picks/prospects that don't mess up the Sabres young core to get him would be very smart. If Seider is sitting there at 15, I'm sacrificing Thompson/Asplund and picks or lower level prospects like Laaksonen to get him

Thank you for your serious responce to my somewhat jocular post. I have read exactly what GirouxCrew stated that 3 to 15 is going to be very unpredictable. With that in mind, trade the 7th over all and let the other GM's decide for the Sabres and take the best of what is left. Then use the other 3 picks from that trade to pick up depth players that will not have an impact for 3 to 5 years.
Unfortunately, this team is far from being a playoff team. We can hope Nylander, Olofsson, Pilut, Mittelstadt, Nelson etc will all be NHL quality next year, but one draft pick will not do the trick. Three years of bad trades, bad drafts and bad free agents under Murray set the team back and I am sad to say, that unless 4 to 5 prospects make the jump or several free agents fill in we are two years away from the playoffs.
Maybe Eichel and Dahlin will surprise me and be Hart and Norris candidates next year. BTW I am the eternal optimist, but right now after 4 years of solid disappointments, I do not see a quick turn around.

That's exactly why we need to build through the draft and not sacrifice players like Nylander for players like Zucker and Trouba. We can't trade promising young talent for players over the age of 26 imo

If I represented myself believing that is what the Sabres should do, trade away prospects and picks, I need to back to first grade to improve my writing skills.
I agree completely. That is why I proposed getting more draft picks and moving down in the draft, especially if 7th and 15th OA are going to have similar talent. When I look at Anaheim's prospect pool I wonder how they could be so deep (well we had Tim and they had Bob, need I say more) and see how little Buffalo has.
