Alzner contract suck but there is no rush for us (mtl) to move him. 1. We are not a contender. 2. We are in a quick rebuild so there is no chance we give free young assets just to dump Alzner contract. 3. We have a lot of cap space.

They get a top 4 defenseman on the side that they desire. And when the contract situation matters in two years, they don't need to worry about him there. Perhaps LA could balance this slightly by giving a pick back, but there is sense to this move.

Montreal is looking for a young LD. Martinez won't bring us anywhere closer to the cup... And Alzner's negative value will be much less in 2 years, with only a year left and a higher salary cap.
