Description
Fletcher plays an aggressive approach in the trade market. Wouldn’t surprise me if Chuck pulls off at least one big trade. Free agent market isn’t too strong for the Flyers needs. They have a very deep prospect pool so he could be willing to part with some high end prospects and picks if it’s worth it. He’s said the goal is to be a contender, so he will be doing everything in his power to do that. MTL deal is an interesting one have seen a lot of rumors linked to Ghost and Shaw recently. I preferrably wouldn’t do that 1 for 1 feel like ghost and his contract for what he brings as a D man and on the PP can bring us back a nice package. So i got fancy with it and put together a deal that brought in Petry and his 5.5m at 31 years old for next 2 seasons. Next deal with MTL is a big one. This really hurts the farm system a tad. Giving up #11 pick which from the looks most likely will be a very good nhl quality player in a year or less. Will be parting ways with arguably best prospect in the system in Farabee. But this move wouldn’t shock me. Fletcher gets his guys in Zucker in Spurgeon both who he locked up during his time in MIN as GM. Spurgeon only 1 season left on his desk but i’m sure Chuck is not worried about extending. All these moves are pretty impactful and will take a hit to our farm system. However, this is clearly a contending team that has depth throughout the lineup. Finally have good veteran presence on the blue line.

The two best assets - Ghost and the 1st round pick - are going to Montreal. Not a good deal for Philly. Even just Ghost and the 1st for Shaw and Petty is overpayment I would say - and you're including two other players on top of that.

This is puts the Flyers "all in" for this year only . At the cap (or even over with bonus), Flyers wouldn't be able to sign their RFAs or Spurgeon next year without some major extractions.

If u read what i said in the notes tho the feeling around here has been we can give up prospects because of the depth in the pool. Wade Allison and Lacyznski are two guys known being possibly moved because we don’t have room to sign them. So why not include them here to sweeten the deal instead of moving them for a 3rd.

Mostly any move Fletcher will make will put us strapped for cap in the future. Especially depending on his approach with our own RFAs. But u have to think guys like Voracek and JVR could possibly be moved down the road. Then again cap continues to go up. JVRs 7m cap is 8% of the cap. 4 years ago his contract of 8% of the cap would be 4.8m-5m. So something to think about looking into future as well.

First off, as a Habs fan, I think including PHI 1st is overkill, and MTL obviously would accept this deal. However, this trade would put MTL in a huge hole on the 2nd pairing RD to compete NOW. Sure MTL has great prospect depth in that position (Juulsen would take that spot, but is still unproven with regard to playing in a top 4 role, and Fleury and Brook have zero NHL experience yet.) I know you already traded Gudas in another trade. but I think if you removed the 1st (or downgraded it to a lower pick) and put Gudas instead of the prospects. The trade would make a little more sense.

Petry + Shaw for Ghost + Gudas. MTL would have to add some draft picks on top of that 100%. but those 4 players as the central components. Age is fairly close between Shaw and Ghost, Petry and Gudas too.

You speak of Fletcher and then make Holmgren moves. I’m confused. Very shortsighted plan.

I don't think you understood what I was saying - Philly doesnt need to sweeten the pot as they would be giving up the two best assets already in Ghost and the 1st. Montreal would need to add. Also, Lacyznski? Whoever that player is is not part of the deal you put together.
