Big over payment for kapanen, johnsson and marner. I dont know about the trade but there isnt really a need for all 3 RD. dermott is ready for top 4 minutes and rosen is ready so they wouldn't need one of TVR or Benning.

Edmonton is so thin on RHD. No way they move their only 2 Guys.
Also TVR is actually good. Zaitsev is a cap dump. Canes don’t make that trade.

Toronto gives up: Kadri, Zaitsev, Sparks, Brown
Carolina gives up: TVR, Saarela, Faulk, Wallmark
Edmonton gives up: RNH, Larsson, Benning, Puljujarvi,

In order of teams value being moved, Carolina and Edmonton give up more than Toronto.

thinking on the signings was:
a) to stave of the offer sheets the leafs will need to sign KK/AJ to 4.227M+ contracts (would be 1st/3rd; rather than a 2nd)
b) to stave off any Marner offer sheet he will need $10.568M+ (4-1sts; rather then 2-1's/2/3)
**I would like them to be closer to $3m each but the above was the thought process
**with the Dermott injury, the extra D are there to insulate

Faulk does give them a puck mover, perhaps a prospect on DEF will also need to included (Ransanen/Kral/Greenway?)
with Hamilton/Pesce TVR is a wasted asset on a 3rd pair, but Zaitsev who can play 15-18 minutes and PK (to elieviate the demads on slavin/Pesce) would be an upgrade IMO on TVR
+ Carolina is getting a playmaking #2C and a young F and young G

I dont think they will be offersheeted. They are rarely used and no one should spend that much on complementary wingers. They are nice to have but can be replaced and they could use the cap space to find a good 3c.

IMO:
Kadri slightly > RNH (they are different but $ and all around better game) > 1 year of Faulk (and then whats his $$?)
Larsson> Zaitsev > TVR
Wallmark = / > Brown > Benning
Puljujarvi (highest upside) > Saarela > Sparks

so if the above was given grades of 3 > 2 > 1 the total would be
Toronto gives up 8 and gets 8
Carolina gives up 7 and gets 8
EDM gives up 9 and gets 7........... so perhaps EDM needs a pick/prospect from TOR/CAR

i know im a homer, but Kappy and AJ will be great 2-way 2nd line wingers, both with 25 goal potential, and can play in their own end and PK; i'd hate to lose them over $750K for a 2nd round pick that may never materialize
+ I loved Wallmarks game

I dont know much about Wallmark and I love having johnsson and kapanen in the lineup but not at such a high price. The name of the game is to pay your stars like AM, MM, JT and WN and fill in the lineup with cheaper players like moore, Ennis and petan. I just think there are players out there who can do the same or almost the same thing for a fraction of the price

Zaitsev is a cap dump. He may have the same ability as TVR, or may even be slightly better, but the $21 mil that's still owed vs. the $2.3 plus whatever TVR might make as an extension (Say 2 x $4?) is a big red flag.

Let's do it and use the draft comp. that each player would probably get in a straight up trade. In terms of total value, let's say each pick is worth: 1st (5 pts), 2nd (3pts), 3rd (1pt)
Toronto: 1st+3rd(Kadri)+3rd (Brown)+Zaitsev (-2nd rounder)+Sparks (No value)=4pts
Edmonton: 1st+3rd (RNH)+Larson (1st+3rd)+Benning (Might be a 3rd, but let's say no value)+Puljujarvi (2nd)=13 pts
Carolina: 1st (Faulk)+TVR (2nd)+Saarela (3rd)+Wallmark (2nd)=11pts

it would appear that we value the players differently so our systems to gauge who wins is flawed.

the over all point i suppose is that these 3 teams could totally swing a deal like this mainly using the players mentioned above

For sure, I guess my point is, it's pretty clear that to get rid of Zaitsev, you'll need to give up something else, which you haven't. He's the only cap dump in the entire deal. Kadri is really the only person the Leafs are giving up that has a good deal of value, whereas Edmonton gives up Larssoni+RNH+A good prospect in Puljujarvi (he's still cheap and is only 21), and Carolina gives up Faulk+TVR+two decent enough prospects.

So just match Johnsson and Kappy. Likely more team friendly than your signing...
