Rangers take on the bad contracts (w/salary retention of the buyout cost for one year) so the other teams get the cap relief for years after this one in exchange for an influx for younger RFA talent

    Honestly as a Hawks fan I'd do that. Might want to get a little more for Teuvo but Hayes and McIlrath are useful young players.

    I think that def works for both sides. Hawks need to lock in the cheap talent for future years and the cap space (wont be able to afford TT in the future). The Rangers need the influx of talent. I think there may be some hope for Runbland (change of scenery) too possibly

    Overall, I like the ideas. Sweeten the pot slightly on Wild and Hawks trades and you're in business. Maybe retain a bit of Nash $ and get a pick back from Toronto so they can still have room to chase Stamkos comfortably.

    The real issue with the CHI trade is their cap management. Both Hayes and McIlrath are RFAs. What do you think they'll command and # years? They still need to have cap space next year for Panarin.

    Teuvo will get a bridge deal - so yes, we can afford him.

    If we're moving Teuvo it's for cost-controlled scoring, not two RFAs.

    Leafs prefer Bozak over Nash, never mind Nash's obscene contract. Stall for two young cheaper good prospects, cmon. The Hawks and Wild deals aren't bad. Do the Wild think Stepan is 6.5m, player is the question.

    Wild wouldn't make that trade. There just isn't the cap room going ahead. Nino, Granny, Haula are all due contracts next year (~$12m between the 3 of them), with only Vanek $6.5m coming off the books.

    Buying out Vanek this year basically allows the Wild to resign their current UFA's + a cheap UFA. (flat cap)

    Spurgeon + Vanek ($1.5 retained) might work, or Brodin+Pommer ($1.5 retained).

    I was actually keeping Panarin in mind when throwing these 2 players in the deal. The money you save on Bickell (3 million or so), should cover both Hayes and Mac-Truck. Most Armchair GM's have Hayes making 1.75-2.00 for a few years and McIll making 800k-1mill for a few years .... It really works nice for the Hawks to get players at low cost for the next few years while trying to come up with the money needed for AP

    Rangers say no to every trade other than Carolina. They don't want to get rid of Girardi that bad to give Stepan away.
