    No one is going to take a 6 Million Dollar 4C for a 2nd and a 3rd. 1st and a 3rd maybe.

only 5 million in real money after July 1st though. I think a non cap team could take taht pretty easily. the difficulty would be convincing backes to waive his partial NTC for there. that said, I think there's a legitimate possibility that he retires after this year if they win the cup, or LTIRetires. There were reports in Boston after last season, when his corpse was dragged off the ice (literally) in game 5 after yet another concussion that he was considering retirement.

Depends on when they try and move him. If they wait till after July 1st then he's only owed $5 million total over the last two seasons. Send Backes + mid pick/prospect to a cap floor team who will eat 50% and then they'd flip him to a pre-determined team (for mid pick and prospect) with only a $3 million cap hit.

    Boston gets cap space
Floor team gets $3 million dead cap (only $1.25 per year real money)
Final team gets Backes at half price

Despite what fans think, Backes still has value.

some value, but not enough for anyone to justify a 5-6 Million dollar cap hit.

But in my situation he's not a $6 million cap hit, he's a $3 million cap hit. $3 million for a someone like Backes is very reasonable. He even becomes attractive to a expansion team looking for a guy to lead a locker room of misfits.
