Mode - plafond salarial: Basique

Description

The Avs have right now 5 D that they have to protect or are worth protecting in the Seattle Draft. EJ, Sammy, Barrie, Z, and Makar. Ranked in my perceived order:
Makar - of course he is protected
Barrie - Extend (6yrsx7.5mil) and protect
Sammy > Z - but they each have their roll that they do well, if they stick with Sammy I think the Avs get rolled over because as a group it will be too small with the nxt move. MTL gets a Top pair LD that will make Weber look good again.
EJ - Top pair/Big minutes/Big body... THIS HURTS but the Avs need to move on now while he still has value. TBL is going to lose most of it's RD and needs to move some cap for Point.

Its crazy when you can trade the top pair D and still have a better looking D-corp and team the next year.

Note: I am dreaming that Timmins is suddenly healthy and ready to go next year.

I'm very intrigued by that EJ trade. I understand what you're saying about Girard but gosh you don't want to give him up this summer after seeing him and Makar together the last couple games. Think you're a little low on the Skinner deal but a little high on Z and Francouz so probably evens out.

I wouldnt give up Girard for Drouin and a pick....and you have Girard plus a 2nd for him? Why do you hate the petite prince so much
Drouin is an over rated, inconsistent, one dimensional who isnt even exceptional in that department player. Drouin is the exact opposite forward this team should be adding. he would make you want to pull your hair out at how brain dead defensively he is

I love Sammy, that dancing little fool, but someone has to go. Not my fault Sakic burned Makar's protection by pulling him into the playoffs. Then all The Avs would have to do is move one of them and he'd be protected. Then logically, Barrie would have been moved for a forward. MTL may not be the target...

Makar is NHL ready and showing hes the real deal, him sitting at home waiting till September would have done nothing for him and his develpment. Sakic didnt make a mistake here.
Someone doesnt have to go, and even if they did, it wouldn't be Girad, him and Makar are this teams top pair for the next decade...even if you were to move him, you wouldnt do it for a blah player like Drouin.

If it came down to it, you can just do what Winnipeg did with Enstrom and their D core, asked him to waive his NMC so they can protect their Dmen, then pay Vegas a 1st rounder so they don't take Enstrom and take the guy they want them to talk. You don't have to trade Girard bc you are worried about expansion draft that no one knows how it will shake out yet. Probably a dozen other options before you even have to think of trading the core guys

I would love that TBL Trade for COL. COL gets a solid 2nd line player and a cap dump (only for 1 year which is fine for the Avs) and get rid of their worst contract. I would rather wait out the 1 year of Callahan instead of buying him out though. Maybe move Soderberg to free up the cap space and slot Callahan in on the 4th line

I dislike the MTL trade, but for different reasons than other peoples comments above. I dont think Drouin is THAT overrated, I think hes a very good player but I just value Girard's potential a bit higher

I doubt Byram would make the team next year and I think Graves or Meloche would grab that 3rd pair RD spot over Timmins also
