WTF is that Leafs trade?? Neither Brown nor Zaitsev is worth anything, why would we trade our best defenceman PLUS a pick for these guys? TOR would just about give these guys away for free.

Yeah rangers aren't touching that with a 10 foot pole. Try adding the 8th overall, bouchard and Yamamoto

Even the Oilers would walk away from that.

I'm not saying they shouldn't, that's just what it would take for rangers to take Lucic, Gagner and Benning in this deal surrounding the bust that is Puljujarvi. Even shattenkirk at his cap hit is better than any player coming from Edmonton in the deal that's posted

So not only are you somehow getting the Rangers to take all of your garbage, but you manage to also get decent return back for your roster. Not even on PlayStation.

LOL

- Benning is more useful than Shattenkirk, cheaper and younger. I wouldn't do a 1-for-1 with those two players.
- Puljujarvi still has some value, he played injured this season and had surgery, not sure what his value is this summer but it's not negative, that's for sure. He's just 20 years old, too early to be called a bust. Jordan Kyrou is the same age and hasn't broken into the league full time yet - would you consider Kyrou a bust?
- Gagner scored at about a 35 point pace in Edmonton, his contract is $3.1M for 1 more year only, very little risk there. I wouldn't trade him if assets have to be added because he's a useful player still. I think he could be traded for a 7th rounder or something like that. Again, not a negative value player.
- Hawkey is a good goalie prospect, 1.88 / 0.921 in NCAA this year.
- Rieder won't be qualified and is therefore a UFA this summer, meaning he won't be part of any deal.
- Lucic is a negative value and therefore unlikely to be traded. With $3M retained he could probably return a 5th or so. He's very good at suppressing offense. With no retention (as above) he would require another asset to be moved.
- 8th overall alone has far more value than Kreider.
- Bouchard was 10th overall last year and has only raised his stock since then. He scored 21 points in 11 playoff games in the OHL this year, then went to the AHL where he got into 2 playoff games there so far and has scored 4 points - in about 10 minutes of ice-time. This kid is a STUD and has more value than Kreider also.
- Yamamoto is another 1st round pick that is trending well considering he battled some injuries this year. 10 goals in 27 AHL games (0.37 g/gp) is a very good scoring pace for a 20-year-old. The aforementioned Kyrou scored 16 in 47 AHL games (0.34 g/gp) and was drafted a year earlier than Yamamoto.

So your whole verbal about taking on the Benning contract, taking a bust in Puljujarvi and Shattenkirk being better than any of the pieces coming from Edmonton is just wrong.

Yeah as a Leafs fan I would be really happy about this trade LOL. You could even remove Larson from the trade and I would still be happy with it tbh. Dubas makes that trade if it gets offered all day

If you read what I said, i said in the deal posted. Which doesn't contain any of those "good assets" you claim.
LOL at benning being better than Shattenkirk -- he plays 3rd line minutes against poor competition. Shattenkirks numbers would be inflated as well and he would be deemed "better".
And your verbal account that Gagner does not have negative value, he could be traded for a 7th... really a 7th rounder? Look any team will take a flier on someone without term. Gagner has over a 3m cap hit though, and for the purposes of this deal he was solely included for cap so don't act like he isn't a dump. He is, he just isn't one with tremendous negative value like lucic.

And slow your roll their big guy, I said edmonton shouldn't take the deal if you read correctly. You will have to completely overpay to get another team to take on your cap dumps and negative assets like Lucic. Edmonton is a dump right now and no one wants their trash.

-The best assets i mentioned are Bouchard and the 8th overall.
-Puljujarvi is a bust and that is why almost every edmonton team on here has him being traded. Its time to face facts that in the deal posted, it's a close match for him or the 3rd rounder in terms of what has more value (trust me, the rangers are approaching this with andersson who is the same age, it sucks but its true).
-Yamamoto is an undersized forward that is not going to be the next debrincat. Sorry it just won't happen. He still has potential yes, but it's not as much as you are implying it is. Yeah former first rounder blah blah blah, but in reality he's 5'8" foward that weighs under 160 pounds that would get pushed around in the NHL (and has in his limited action)

I wasn't defending the "deal posted", I was giving my opinion on the players you mentioned. Also, Shattenkirk plays the 7th hardest minutes on NYR's defense and loses those minutes badly. At least Matt Benning can win 3rd pairing minutes.

please tell me where your source is for this info.. because i find it hard to believe he could be ranked 7th on a unit of 6

Both players played 3rd pairing based on their TOI vs elites. Neither player "won" the minutes vs elites, 3rd pairing players rarely do. Overall though, their on-ice GF-GA numbers are as follows:

Shattenkirk 38 - 46 (-8)
Benning 43 - 34 (+9)

Both played 3rd pairing, Benning outscored his opponents and Shattenkirk did not.
