THOSE are pretty bad, considering those teams would make those moves for almost nothing, why are the Flyers giving up good picks for salary dumps? And how does marleau and eakin make the team better for one year? Are those the real pieces philly is missing to win a cup (because they are 1 yr deals)?

Even if Marleau retires, the Flyers might candidate to take his cap this year. Believe it is 6.25m minus the 1.1m AHL demotion, so it's 5.15m cap hit then the Flyers gotta fill with a NHL left winger. Either way it's the Leafs that add the pick.

It's one year for Marleau and I believe the Flyers would want him to play. The Flyers could give up a much lower pick than I did but I don't see the Leafs giving up anything to move him. He's very capable of a 40 point campaign.

Marleau is probably the overpay. Eakin and Reaves are pretty fair. Eakin could be more valuable than a 2nd to be honest. Are they pieces individually that make a team win the cup? No. But given that the Islanders, Carolina, and Columbus are in the 2nd round I'd say it gives the Flyers a fair shake at a long playoff run. With the right rookie development it sure could be a cup run. That defense above is questionable. It could be bad, it could be okay, it could be dominant. Hart could be dominant. And that would leave the forwards as the question and the team above has no holes. There's not one or 3 of Lehtera, Corban Knight, Phil Varone, or Bailey playing every game. The 3rd line could be highly productive. The risk is draft picks. But for a free agent class that's not that good I could see the Flyers trying to improve their team through relatively cheap trading than making a long term trade commitment.

My goodness, Marleau is really starting to look old. Couple that with the fact that Toronto would desperately like to move his contract, you could get him and a quality piece back for pretty much free.... not sure why you are actively trying to get him? Yeah sure he MAY get you 40 points if your lucky. He may also cost you 6.25M to play 13 mins a night and score 25 points....

You could get what he'll give you for cheaper.
