Leafs trade in a second. Never in a million years would I do that Habs trade if I was the Oilers. RNH and Nurse could get a way better package then that by far.

Agree with the others, this is an easy no from Edmonton. You might be able get either Nurse or RNH for this package, but certainly not both.

So let me get this straight the two trades i posted don't make the Oliers better? This all sounds alot like when i posted Max going to Vegas last summer for Tatar and a prospect. Hmm.

I see that no one actually offered useful feedback, so I will try.

My perspective with my Oilers Goggles on:

First thing, there is too much Cap Space eaten up by this roster and it is kind of confusing proposing this trade after the season, since we know that these players aren't returning: Rieder, Petrovich, Stolarz, Rattie and Chiasson (who will get a raise, but may not return) and there is a 50% chance that one or more of Lucic, Sekera, Russell and Puljujarvi will be traded in the off-season. As well, there is a 50% chance that neither of Brodziak, Gagner and Cave will make the team next year.

As far as the value to the Oilers being traded:

1. Nurse on his own is easily worth a 1st round pick, his size, speed, aggression, offense and age are all things that a coach and GM will salivate over. I never thought I'd see him get to a 30 point season, so his 41 pts this season are jaw-dropping totals. He is not even close to his peak, so I think in 3-4 years when he reaches his prime years he will be a better McDonagh, which is a substantial player. To give you an idea, Nurse for Petry + a 2nd would be fair value today IMO.

2. RNH is an extremely valuable player on this team. His equivalent value IMO would be Drouin + Lehkonen or RNH + a 3rd for Drouin + a 2nd. But I wouldn't do either of these trades, because RNH is too valuable in all zones. He is the Oilers' version of Ryan O'Rieilly without the face-off ability. That is a core player, whereas Drouin falls far short of that for me.

3. Larsson struggled this year, he was a much better player the previous 2 seasons, so the hope for next year is he back to the level he was at before, which is realistic given his age. He isn't a 1A 1st pairing Dman, his lack of elite speed and good offense keeps him from that, but he is a solid, aggressive, dependable force on the back end, lets call him a 1B or #2 or #3 Dman. It would be a major mistake for this team to move him.

Benning is an above-average 3rd pairing Dman, but has not shown enough consistency to play above the 3rd pair. This team doesn't have a better option for that role right now, so it would be a major mistake to move him. So, Kadri, Hyman, Adam Brooks and their 2020 2nd would be my ask for Larsson and Benning with perhaps a 4th or 5th rounder or Khaira. But again, this would leave a major hole on Right D, so it would be a big mistake to move Larsson, so I wouldn't do this deal.

So, I think moving all these players out for the players coming back, while bring back some value really hurts the Oilers a lot. Also, is Dale Weiss still a useful NHL player? We already have those questions for players like Lucic, Gagner, Manning, who are definitely paid far more than the value they are giving back. Is Zaitsev better than a 3rd or 2nd pairing Dman? I think he would be the most over-paid 3rd pairing dman on this roster, like we already have in Russell and Manning and had in Petrovich. I'd rather keep Benning than him.

Also, FYI, Ryan Mantha's hockey career ended in 2018.

I could go on, but I will leave you with this, most of the targets are decent, but I certainly wouldn't want Zaitsev or Weiss and a lot more would have to come back, because it leaves the Oiler's defense in shambles (and the Oiler D has been a trainwreck for more than a decade, because good dmen were traded with no one to replace them, ie. Jeff Petry) and although it adds 3 quality forwards, it isn't near enough to improve this team.
