You only have one big expiring contract contact, Brodie for next season. At you're at the cap....risk losing Domi. Leafs would take a change on an offer sheet. Besides the Leafs can still sign their RFAs, I don't know why there is misconception that they can't.

There are Thompson, Weise, And Callagnan buyout that give $4M of new money for Brodie and Domi. Maybe I should have sign Weal for 1 year contract. Thanks.

For Kapanen, it depends on Marner's contract who could request Mathews kind of money.

MTL arent doing OTT CGY TML trades. Mtl will trade for Brodie only if he agrees to sign an extention. So 2 2nd round pick for Brodie thats it ( with an extention ). We dont trade Tatar for late 2nd round pick and a late 3rd pick lmao what is this. We dont need Ryan, just keep Alzner in Laval to show Fleury Brook Walford to be professional. Offersheet Kapanen 4 059 321M 4 years - 2nd round pick MTL 2019 ( the Columbus one trade for Brodie ), if TML match, not a big deal, dont need Kapanen.

Ryan can give 40 plus points per year for $7.2. Alzner gives nothing for $3.6. So we get a veteran that gives us 40 points for a differential of $3.6. This is the thinking behind this contract swap. We saw with Tampa and Calgary that size count in the playoffs, (Gaudreau, Points etc) . Mtl is a small team for a future long playoff run. This explain the strategy of Swapping Tatar for Kapanen.

But MTL arent doing the playoffs next year. We need a veteran like Alzner in the minor. Ryan wont bring 40 points on the 4th line + pp minutes

I understand your rational of keeping Alzner for mentoring kids. There are no urgency and needs to trade him. Neither Tatar. But the aim of this armchair -Gm was to improve the team now for a playoff spot. Did Mtl improved ?

    A big no.
Losing Alzner is good, as is getting Kapanen.
Getting Ryan and Callahan, as well as losing Tatar, all do not help.
Plus dumping Peca for nothing, is he that bad he can’t get a pick?

Harken back to HS algebra, and reduce to the common denominator:

    1 good skater gained & lost = 0
    Picks are about a wash.
You take on Callahan & Ryan to lose Alzner.
These moves really do not put the Habs in any better position, now or in the future.

Having TJ Brodie the long needed LD and getting bigger and younger with Kapanen, Could this be included in the equation ? LMAO

My point on Kapanen (and all RFAs on any team) is they can be signed and if team is over the cap this summer, those teams are going to have to make deals. Jets with Laine and Connor, Tampa with Point will likely be same siutation
Just my opinion on Brodie. He's a one year rental and is really THAT good now and for future. Save your picks and your long term cap.
