Ryan can give 40 plus points per year for $7.2. Alzner gives nothing for $3.6. So we get a veteran that gives us 40 points for a differential of $3.6. This is the thinking behind this contract swap. I understand your rational of keeping Alzner for mentoring kids. There are no urgency and needs to trade him. Neither Tatar. But the aim of this armchair -Gm was to improve the team now for a playoff spot. Did Mtl improved ?

You take on Callahan & Ryan to lose Alzner.
These moves really do not put the Habs in any better position, now or in the future.

My point on Kapanen (and all RFAs on any team) is they can be signed and if team is over the cap this summer, those teams are going to have to make deals. Jets with Laine and Connor, Tampa with Point will likely be same siutation
Just my opinion on Brodie. He's a one year rental and is really THAT good now and for future. Save your picks and your long term cap.
