Zaitsev and a 1st for demelo and either or both ltir contracts if you want to move them.

Yes I think this is an overpay but it is also a divisional trade and we owe you for Phaneuf

Lucic and Puljujarvi for an LTIR if you want otherwise a mid-late round pick. I think Puljujarvi still has a lot of potential I am just adamant that not in Edmonton

There is no way I see Ottawa taking Lucic. Some bad contracts are easier to move than others. That one is not easy to move.
Not only because of his NTC, but also because he's a winger, not exactly a position that's hard to find talent in. It's not like he plays defense where there never seems to be enough players.
He also has a 6 million cap hit for 4 years and has virtually no production. 6 goals in 79 games. That's really hard to move.

Instead of cap dumps, the Sens should be looking at solid NHLers and "good guys" who can help the young Sens transition into good NHLers. Players like Perrault. Maybe Gourde. Taking long term cap dumps especially for guys who don't want to be in Ottawa is detriment to the rebuilding.

I second that deal, but I would rather give a 2nd and 3rd/ a prospect. We can't spare any more 1sts..

It is an overpay but if the deal goes through we keep everyone but brown. Is that worth a late 1st? I think the reasonable trade is zaitsev and a 2nd but like O said this is an overpay. Works out well for Ottawa as zaitsev would pair well with chabot.

I think there is some truth to that. But if the offer is good enough, I think it's a mistake to pass it up. Hell if someone is gonna hand you a 1st to take someone for 2 years, you take it.
The problem is we don't know what offers they really have and a lot of those character guys tend to have NTC and they ain't waiving to go to Ottawa.

I agree fully. Gourde especially as he just signed an extension this year. I think a perrault for a mmid round pick would be idea; as he can move everywhere in the line up

I would make this deal in a heartbeat but no LTIR guys go back because as it helps Ottawa hit the cap floor without paying the contracts by keeping them on IR and not moving them to LTIR

If you add the 1st round pick for this years draft as well as making the deal after July 1st so EDM pays the signing bonus. Makes Lucic a 4 million dollar player in real money for the rest of his contract

There are much worse defense men in the NHL than JJ. A team looking to add sandpaper will trade for him. I don't really think he's a cap dump. He might not even be on the market. If the penguins trade him and Maatta they won't have a LHD. There isn't really much in FA to choose from right now so where would that leave them?

They might go with what's on the roster, but even given that, the total lack of FA for LHD means there will be trade partners.

Would you say all western canadian cap dumps are off the table because they are for way too long? (Eriksson, Neal, Lucic, ). How about Sekera for 2 years, help a guy like Chlapik find his slavic way?

To Ottawa:
Sekera [2 years, 5.5 million] -> vet with 30pt seasons as D under his belt, but unsure of future production
Gagner [1 year, 3.15 million] -> vet who I still believe could get 25-30 points and play on an Ottawa powerplay, be a good mentor, I was unsure why he spent so much time in the AHL
Manning (to buy out for $900,000 this year and $666,666 next year)
Puljujarvi -> Still has potential to be a game-breaking player, we could see another Strome situation here
2019 2nd round pick EDM
2020 4th round pick EDM

to Edmonton:
Pageau -> Wasn't his best season, maybe could do well if EDM re-signs Chiasson and they have a french connection, balances out so that all salary isn't going one way.
2019 4th round pick OTT -> Ottawa upgrades a 4th to a 2nd
2020 6th round pick STL -> Ottawa upgrades a 6th to a 4th

LTIR contracts still count against the cap 100%. When a player is placed on LTIR, their cap hit remains on the teams cap payroll and it continues to count as it always did. It also does not provide the club with additional cap-space savings that can be banked for future use while the team operates above the salary cap. Instead, LTIR provides relief if the club's averaged club salary, or payroll, begins to exceed the upper limit. The amount of relief that the club receives is calculated on the day the player is placed on LTIR.

LOL, not a chance. You think Edmonton can sign a guy for $6M to be as good as JP + (say) Zegras? It's not worth it.

Then how has Horton not count against the cap for the Leafs. They still need to pay them real money (insurance usually covers 80%) but does not go towards their cap. Once they come back from LTIR (which McCarthur and Gaborik wont) they start counting.
