Description
Firstly, I think its time to move on from GMJR. Thankful for the back to back Cups but some of his recent moves for us have been terrible. Keep Sully and give him another year with a better, retooled roster. Moved some dman with some higher picks in order to get some cap relief. Traded Kessel, Hornqvist & Maatta for some more depth which is something we absolutely lack this post season. Also moved Bjustad in order to let McCann take over the 3rd line C position. Moved Jarry to a team where he would have the chance to make the jump to the NHL. With Murray recent play and DeSmith new contract, I can't see him making the team with us. Added Eberle & Ferland through free agency. Both in the prime of their career with 20 goal season to help with some wing depth that we really lacked this season. McGinn and TVR are just really needed depth piece needed with Simon as a 13th forward, they can easily rotate.

Yes Detroit is rebuilding and they are not done yet but there is a definite log jam at D. They have no room so you'd need to take Daley back with you to make room.

This is not a re-tool. Learn what that means. Also stop trading Kessel

My favorite is when someone says their team is rebuilding and they trade a good number pick for veteran players. The only way to rebuild is through draft.

Detroit and Ottawa gave up 6th and 7th round picks, which have almost no value. The point of the trade is to show that their giving up no value and gaining a draft pick by taking a bad contract because like you stated " The only way to rebuild is through the draft". I don't care if they give up roster player with one year left or a bag of pucks, the whole point is moving JJ & Gudbranson to help clear cap space.

It's not about value it's about room and more specifically roster spot Detroit looses for you dumping cap on them. That trade does nothing for Detroit at all.

Yeah just not enough incentive for Detroit to take Gudbranson with 3 years left at 4M. He'd be a 7th D at best, maybe even get buried in minors. Detroit has a bunch of picks over the next few drafts, another 3rd is pretty meh atp. Make it your 2019 1st and we have a deal, otherwise no interest.

gubranson has been surprisingly very good in pit. No way wed trade a first to move him. at this point with our defence we kinda need him lol

Trading Gudbranson is the dumbest thing this team can do. He's the one guy on the ice that keeps people honest. Can you imagine the **** storm that would be happening with the islanders goons if he wasn't there.

The islanders don't want to deal with that and drop gloves with him which is the ONLY thing keeping those games from getting out of control.
There is no way he is traded. His play is fine, and he brings that dimension to the team.

Not much done here actually makes the penguins better.
Eberle, doesn't fix the problem on this team. Ferland, is a decent player but he's too small to be the power forward they need.
Someone had mentioned Lawson Crouse from Arizona and frankly I think that sounds about right.

Trading Maatta and Jarry won't be that hard and you can get a decent return on both.
Especially Maatta, who even if he doesn't work out, he cost virtually nothing to buy out so someone will take that on.

Hörnqvist has a NTC so good luck with that. My feeling is they ask him to retire LTIR concussions.

Johnson has a lot more value than you realize. Go ask TB or Toronto who have virtually no physical players on their team. Either one would kill for a player who can lay the body like Johnson does right now.

There are changes coming. It starts by trusting the youth in the organization.
Drozg, Hallander, Björkqvist, are three of the big ones. they are all physical players, the kind they need.

They need to sign Nikita Pavlychev and get him into WBS so they can see what they got there. Get him on the 4th line for that physical role and let him simply be hard to play against. He doesn't need to light up goals. He just has to wear on lines and use his size for intimidation much like Chara does. Screw Sullivan and his nancy ways. They get that kid into the system and tell him play mean!

Too many people want to build this team like TB or Toronto. Look at what is happening to those teams in the playoffs. You got to be built for the physical game. It doesn't have to be the whole roster, but you need everyone capable of chipping in. We can't keep skating multiple players who are contact adverse. They have it in the youth, they have to trust it and play it and make some minor changes through FA. Nothing drastic. They are close, they just aren't there this year. But they still have a solid group that just needs a little adding to.
