Pick #11 overall? Plus enough cap space to sign Marner for $10M and Kapanen and Johnsson for a combined $6.5M, and keep the rest of the team together? Where do we sign up?

It certainly works.... can’t help but think that this not what dubas had in mind when he acquired muzzin. As unlikely as it seems a retired Marleau seems to fit perfectly. When I do an agm and sign everyone I take Marleau throw him into ltir and move petan up from the scratch list and it fits like a glove. Maybe he has other plans like moving zaitsev and brown but I just don’t see how you move zaitsev and replace him and stay below the cap. Moving nylander fits but has that really been Dubas’ plan since January?

Completely agree. And I'm not a fan of trading Brown for Matthew Benning just to get another RhD and save $200,000.

I know some folks well think, it's not enough of Nylander. But it really doesn't matter. Marner, Kapanen and maybe even Johnsson "screwed" the cap by having good seasons and of deserving of bigger money that what was expected. Plus the 11m cap. cost of Tavares who you got for free, means you might have to trade cap at some time. So, Nylander may/may not be better than 7m cap hit, it's doesn't affect what the Leafs might have to do this summer.
Like lineup but doubt if Hainsey signs for 1m to be beaten like a rented mule.....for the third straight year.

I have a couple of similar ideas for trade(s) with Florida (#13) but can't make one work with Minnesota (#12). Too bad, because those nice Minnesota guys want him badly and I always enjoy discussing things with them.

I think this is some pretty solid speculation of what the situation might be behind the scene. When you start to think of Marleau's 3 yr contract as a 2 yr deal alot of dots start to connect and the cap crunch next year seems alot less daunting.

Literally laughing out loud at Hainsey being beaten like a rented mule.

It frustrating not knowing the plan but there clearly is one and the piece we are all missing is the 6m that will not be part of our cap next year. Dubas could have paid less for a pure rental and left 4m open for next season but he is sure that he had the 4m to spend. There are a lot of combinations that equal that 6m price tag... to me Marleau is the most logical. There isn’t going to be an uproar if we lose Marleau for muzzin... but nylander for muzzin... plus the pieces we gave up???? we are just going to have to wait and see what it is. I do love a good mystery...

Yep. That pretty much sums it up, especially the frustrating bit.

I'd only add that patience is one of those tough lessons to learn. But as leaf fans we've had years and years of practice in waiting... July isn't so far away.

While we wait we should start a betting line on if Marleau retires or not..
