Putting aside the argument that Nylander was promised he wouldn't be traded while Dubas is still GM (and how long will that last with these consistent 1st round playoff exits?), I'd imagine the offseason game plan is clear:
(1) Move out as many over-valued bad contracts as possible - Zaitsev is really the one that comes to mind as I'd doubt they'd convince Marleau to waive his NMC
(2) Get tougher without sacrificing speed - Brandon Tanev (UFA) comes to mind
(3) Overhaul the defensive look of this team - I would consider this both offensively and defensively, but defense is a must
If Leafs are looking at the Flyers, I'd think Myers and Sanheim would be the list on the backend, and I'd think they would look hard at Laughton for a 3C/4C, especially if Kadri is moved. Considering the positive and upward trend the Flyers are on, I'm not sure either defender would be available unless the Leafs overpaid. To me, Nylander for Sanheim and Laughton is an example of a Leafs' overpayment. If you add Kadri to the mix, I'd expect the Flyers to throw in Myers and a high prospect or high draft pick. I'm fairly certain the Flyers wouldn't be happy with that. So, if the Flyers and Leafs are to deal, I'd expect a deal like Kadri, Nylander and Liljegren (or perhaps Jeremy Bracco) for Sanheim, Myers, Laughton and a 2019 1st round draft pick. When you consider the fact that this deal saves the Leafs $11 million AAV upfront and probably at least $5 million after deals are worked out with their new RFAs, I think it's a win-win. I consider the Leafs ability to keep and afford Andreas Johnsson and Kasperi Kapanen the second win, of the win-win
