Description
Next year is the last year of Petro’s contract. He turns 30 next year and will need an expensive contract in years where players start to decline. Trade him for the Oilers first round pick (they haven’t had any luck with one in recent memory) and prospects. Edmonton gets the dman they have needed and St. Louis gets a 1st rounder (in the top 10ish) and 4th rounder in 2019 which they didn’t have.

Allen’s time in St. Louis is over. Carolina has McElhinney a UFA this summer and Mrazek, as well as Darling who has struggled far worse than Allen. None you want to put a full load on. Jake could use a change of scenery and the east coast bunch of jerks may be the best landing place for him to be a 1A with Mrazek. Elliott is signed to mentor Binnington and have a proven backup.

Tried to keep the team the same throughout even with UFA/RFA signings. Almost 9mil left in cap so there is a lot that could be done. Not a huge fan of randomly signing big names that most likely won’t sign in STL. More depth needs to be signed in AHL so maybe more like 5mil will be available...

Petro has 0 reasons to sign an extension with EDM... They can't be successful and or can't pay any more than other teams...

Petro won’t sign, but I like this rationale. I think Florida would be a team that could make sense for a high-pick for Pietrangelo trade.

Its more for the idea... Who knows where players want to be? McDavid is a player anyone would want to play with and Edmonton has a huge fan base. Not sure if he would do it or not, but I would rather give Parayko the bump to the top pair and use money elsewhere and get a 1st for Petro.

Petro in Florida makes zero sense. They have ekblad Yandle and Matheson. They need team defence. Don’t see petro waiving to go to a non playoff team.

Think this is something that blues fans need to realize. There are very few teams that Petro can be moved to. They have to have cap space (or you take cap back) they need to be a contender and most importantly they must have a need at that position. Colorado might be a go if they move Barrie but I think they need to address depth scoring. Toronto and Tampa both have a need and contending team but you would need to take cap back. Vegas certainly has cap issues. Don’t think they would be in the market with all of their new acquisitions but that’s a maybe. Am I missing anyone?

These are all good points but I do think Florida would have an interest in Pietrangelo given just how horrid that defense has been this year. Honestly, it’s probably worth it to lock up Pietrangelo long-term and just roll with the team that Armstrong built. Obviously 8 years for a guy turning 30 is scary but perhaps they can keep the term lower.

They don’t necessarily have to have a need at that position, I mean Vegas doesn’t have trouble scoring yet they picked up Stone, Leafs need defense not fwrds yet they got Tavares (that one is different cause it didn’t cost assets but still) what they need to have is a want to boost something that is already a strength, so for that reason I’d say Winnipeg could call (again cap would have to come back) also PIT and WSH... two more teams with cap troubles, and one interesting idea I had would be VAN if they win a draft lottery, if they win a Lottery VAN can pull out of this rebuild in a hurry and won’t have cap troubles yet, if Petro wanted to go to VAN and was convinced they are on their way up that could be a fit to play with Hughes, Tanev and Edler in their Top 4

Yeah Edmonton doesn’t have any cap space. Especially not 6.5 million, which would turn into 8 or 9 with an extension. So that’s not going to work!

Stone is much more than scoring, Toronto let their 2c walk in ufa. As far as a rental goes yes I could see some teams wanting to boost a position but would Washington want to re sign petro? Probably not. So yes maybe not a need but a want in some cases. How much are teams in a position like that willing to give up?

Winnipeg could move Trouba since they are going to lose him in FA so that might be a spot. Vancouver is another team that might be a destination for the reasons you mentioned.

Yup, I think 5-6 years would be the term on his next deal.
