Quoting: Bluejackets2000
I feel for you. It is tough when you have 2 big name guys who gave their all to win championships (I wish the CBJ knew what that was like)...Keith & Seabrook who are well past their prime. Hawks are giving up a lot to keep them on in diminished roles for as long as they can. Buyouts are expensive, but paying someone to take large contracts is even more expensive.
Where is Tonya Harding’s crew when you need them? Just kidding of course.
****, I typed out this whole massive reply with my thoughts on Duncs and Seabs not being as bad as advertised, and chrome took a giant dump.
To summarize briefly, imagining someone clubbing Seabs' knee and him screaming "WHHYYYYYY" Nancy Kerrigan style is all the lulz. Duncs has ups and downs, but he'll still be contributing to this team for awhile. Seabs, it isn't that he's seen a decline, it's that the game got faster, too fast for him, and he's a great defenseman for a decade ago. Such is life.
In my opinion, and not just because I've worn both their sweaters, Duncs and Seabs have earned the right to retire as Hawks, and there will be ways to utilize them until their contracts are up (well, maybe Seabs has to go to Robidas island... We'll see on that one). A lot of these young and upcoming defensemen on the roster will need them as mentors if not stopgaps.
Hell all we have to do is fire Gus out of a cannon straight into Edmonton to join good ol' Manning, and the team will already be better defensively, no matter who takes his place. Point being, shuffle the chairs a bit, add some new ones, and the Hawks will have a much better defensive core very soon.
