Description
Schneider trade: Lucic is looking for a fresh start and enjoyed playing in larger markets (Boston, LA), so he would likely waive to go to NJ. This trade will happen after July 1st when Lucic's bonus is paid. This leaves $16M cash owing to ML over 4 years vs $18 owed to CS over the next 3, meaning cash savings for the Devils while the cap hits are a wash. Schneider has been below league average in SP for the past several years (.907, .908, .901) and is 33 today.

This allows NJ to go after Bobrovsky, or if you feel that Blackwood is ready to backstop this team (risky proposition as he's only 22) then I could use the cap space to go after Karlsson. Failing that, the $16M could bring in two good players - say Duchene + Gardiner. What do you think?

Panarin wants $11 million per, And Bobrovsky wants Carey Price money. Though he wont get it and isn't worth it.

3 more years of Schneider at $6M or 5 more on Lucic?
If Cory Schnedier from Jan were what we were working with, sure. Cory looks like he worked through the bugs and is NOW finally healthy! I don't touch Lucic contract without Nurse or at min Poolparty coming back and probably not even then.
Bob is 30 and will be asking for more than $9, I woudl not pay him $7 so!
As has been posted, Breadman gets $10-11M, and I 'd consider paying him!

Blackwood/Schneider unless they cut bait and move for a younger option without tying up tons in G.

No player created from this years draft-If Devs end up top 3 one of those guys will play. That also determines what Ray does in FA, if a Hughes/Kakkoo is drafted no need for a Duchense-like player. If Cozens is drafted, Matty D would look nice.
You have not addressed the D which is the biggest issue on this team right now!

Looks like you forgot to read the team explanation. Average salary post July 2, 2019:

Schneider: $6M x 3 years
Lucic: $4M x 4 years

Yeah everyone in Edm hates the Lucic contract, because it sucks. Thinking he's be better with a fresh start, is no indication that he would get better. CS had major hip surgery that is almost always a 15-20 month recovery. We've seen him start to come out of it and appears to be the CS pre-surgery. Even if he is handing over close to half the work to Blackwood, I would still want CS over ML. And then asking for Bob after what we just went through with an older G? No thanks to any of that IMO.

Lucics cap hit is still 6 mill. Actual salary isnt a big deal unless you're a low budget team

A few points:

1) In the 2019 calendar year, Cory is 5-6-2 with a .925 Save % and 2.38 GAA. Lucic has averaged 1 point every 3 games over the past 2 seasons and hasn't scored a goal in 23 games. At the same AAV, the choice is easy: Cory for 3 more years instead of Lucic for 5.

2) Signing Bobrovsky to a 5 year contract when he's had a worse year than Blackwood makes no sense. I would much rather bet on Blackwood than sink money into a declining goaltender.

3) With the cap going up to $83 Million, there will be multiple teams bidding for players like Panarin, Duchene, Karlsson and Gardiner. Why would a player in the prime of his career sign with a team that has finished bottom 5 in the league twice in the past 3 years? Especially considering none of those players have any allegiance or ties to NJ whatsoever.

Points 1 and 2, I emphatically agree with. Point 3, is correct, but I strongly dislike you for saying it.
