Description
CAR & TOR

CAR trades their already deep RHD side giving TOR an affordable RHD while retaining cap and taking on 4th liner with size in Connor Brown & being rewarded a prize in retaining by taking Dmytro Timashov.

Overall Adding to their Forward depth and adding Timashov to their 3rd line after he is currently setting fire to the KHL.

LAK & CAR

LAK are able to afford to trade Quick because of their Goaltending depth that has emerged this season. Giving up Necas hurts but in the overall scheme of things CAR has a ton of Center depth both already in the NHL and still in Charlotte. 2019 2nd Helps LAK along in the deal for something to tie them over for now.

If Adam Fox does not sign the LAK get:

Necas
2019 2nd
2021 3rd.

If he does they get

Necas
Adam Fox
2019 2nd

Keep in mind Adam Fox could just walk to UFA in 2020 if he chooses not to sign (Its in full control of him)

Wanted to touch on the Williams signing for so low, i feel he takes a decent discount if CAR offered him 3 years (Takes him till he is 40) instead of a 1-2 year contract at a larger price tag.

I don't think retaining $1m for 1yr gets you a prospect like Timashov. That and TVR is underwhelming. I'd rather put our own package together for Fox

As a Leaf fan i can tell you i dont like the deal as much as you do. But retaining 1m on TVR gives you more cap relief as of right now thats worth a whole lot more than a player in the KHL who we dont even know will return to TOR with 100%.

If it helps think of it this way:

Tor Trades: Overpaid Connor Brown + Pretty good player in the KHL

TOR gets: Slightly overpaid RHD made affordable in their situation

I also did a full write up of all the Leafs prospects here: https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/209011&post_id=776478

Edit: Correction seems to be i mixed up Miro Aaltonen & Dmytro Timashov

Leafs get too little, Kings get too much. I think it makes more sense for the Leafs to get Faulk with another prospect going to the Canes. I don't believe Quick would make that much of a difference for the Canes to give up Necas and Fox. Quick is having a down year so you could try to buy low, but I think this is an overpay. Goalies can be really weird sometimes and it can be hard to pay that much for one, look at Lehner, Greiss, Kuemper, Halak, Khudobin, Brossoit, etc. As long as the Canes can get average goaltending they'll be fine, maybe using their cap space for Bobrovsky or buying low on Schneider would work out better.

Honestly dont think Quick is getting LA an elite prospect back. He has had injury problems, is signed for another 4 years and is just under $6 million in cap. LA can get picks for him but actual elite talent would be tough to land at this point.

Couple things then.

a) we don't view Connor Brown as overpaid...just a guy that's currently blocked from playing top 6 minutes due to the skill above him in the lineup
b) Aalonen changes things. He played for the Marlies but left for the KHL when it seemed he wouldn't get a job with the leafs. I don't expect him to ever play for the Leafs so, from that perspective, have no issues including him in exchange for cap retention

I have some differing thoughts about the value of some of your RFA's, but those are just subjective feelings, not objective factual-based positions. Overall, this is a very well thought out projection, and as a follower of both the Kings and the Maple Leafs, I have no serious dispute with either trade (although I would, of course, hate to see Quick go on a down note). Good job.
