I don't see Carolina taking a deal like that when they have a ton of options in UFA for guys to sign. They can keep Pesce and sign someone like Kevin Hayes or Derrick Brassard or even go big for Matt Duchene.

For as long as they continue to produce, Johnsson and Kapanen are going to be paid more than that. If Jakob Silfverberg is getting paid $5.25M per season, Johnsson isn't going to take a deal where he's getting half that.

if Johnsson wants 5M you trade brown 2M and you go for a Duchene or Panarin.

There is no way in hell the Leafs can afford one of those guys long term. They can barely afford all the guys they have now, plus they still have to fix the defense.

Pesce > kadri

On the ice, I think Pesce is worth more than Kadri....maybe not a great amount by more. Then the .5m difference a year, and then two more years term makes Pesce worth even more.
IMO it's more a Nylander for Pesce trade that makes more sense. Nylander has more potential, has cash outlay of just 4.6m a year and has the same term as Pesce.

To, me Pesce and his term makes him more valuable. (see above)
Brown seems to lost his hands, no way is he worth a second now. Hard to believe that Hyman looks more confident than Brown. Bur Edmonton is logical place for Brown
I don't mind Zaitsev. If he was stay a Leaf for five more years than OK with me, if he doesn't regress. But I don't see anyone team wanting to trade for him and looking at that 4.5m X 5, especially if they read all the bad reports on him CapFriendly.
Your trades and the replacements got the Leaf about 5.5 in cap space. That's good . I just question if Zaitsev is that tradable.

Pesce for Kadri, Brown and Woll, could be a deal, though it doesn't help the Leafs cap that much. My prediction is that Woll, finishes college an is a UFA and signs with hometown St Louis,

If you been reading my posts, I think Nylander and his 6.9m cap hit is the best option to traded for the Leafs. Just for futures...no NHL cap back. Maybe Dallas is the best team.
If there more cap, then maybe the Leafs can spend more on Kapanen and Johnsson are longer term contracts.

Krakowitz above wrote something that makes good sense. If Carolina is willing to spend more.....sign a UFA centre and keep Pesce.

I truely believe that Nylander is the answer to 3C and Kadri is to be expendable. Brown must go to relieve cap. If the offer sheet for either kapenen or johnsson is north of 4.05M then i would accept the 1st and 3rd that come with it. Tough Loss but I would match anything below that .Both players are wroth more than a 2nd

Hey, I'm with your on having Nylander move to centre, and therefore for cap reason, Kadri might have to be traded.(if that is the cap solution). A retired Marleau and a traded Kadri might do the cap trick for the Leafs. Trouble with an offer sheet if it's just five year at 4.3 (cap adjusted) then it's just a 2nd rounder. Ouch.
