Why would they say no? Johnsson is on pace for a 40+ point season playing mostly 3rd and 4th line minutes....Brown is a plug with potential for 20+ goals and Zaitsev is an unremarkable D but Leafs would have to throw in salary. Maybe a 1st instead of a second?

It might be fair deal, it's three NHL regulars for one, but I can see why both teams say no. But it doesn't help the Leafs cap situation much. Still three roster positions short when at the cap.
I know Canes fans and Zaitsev haters will disagree, but the difference between Zaitsev and Pesce certainly isn't Johnsson, and Brown and a second.

Connor Brown value is about a 4th pick. Zaitsev is a correct defense, but with his salary, he becomes a cap dumb (negative value), Andreas Johnsson is a correct prospect, his value is about a late 2nd round pick. (he's 24!!). he doens't will progress a lot. So, replace Zaitsev with Liljegren and it's a fair deal.

No that’s an overpayment. My point was 1st of all, Carolina don’t need or want another D men. They already have a log jam, hence the rumours circling. Without Zaitzev, Brown isn’t a desirable enough piece and Johnsson is nice but unproven. Who knows if he’s just hot or leeching of guys like Marner Nylander Tavares Matthews Kadri kapanen Marleau etc
