I'm against a Stepan trade.

He misses 10 games, Parise misses 10 games, Wild miss playoffs. There is just no depth to the team, nor cap space to make a difference.

Buying out Vanek means they are paying $8M this year, and $8.5 next year for Stepan. That's getting close to Crosby pay.

Funny thing is I think Vanek is totally tradeable! No point buying him out. If he sees his options of being bought out or waiving his no trade, i think he'll reconsider it.

He's a decent option for a team not wanting to spend the same money on a player with a 6 years of term and gets them closer to the cap floor in the process. As long as Minny doesn't ask for too much in return and maybe retains a bit of salary, there's a trade to be made.

If there is a team to take Vanek for a bunch of hockey sticks or let's say a 6th round pick and he waives his NO-Trade, fair enough. I just don't see a team yet to take him on or him waiving his NTC. For the time being, I'd take the gamble on Stepan being a No1 Center, the biggest need this team has to get over the hump. He creates havoc in front of every net as long as he's healthy. Granny has been a stud on the wing and there is a bunch of nice prospects in the system now. There is always the risk with injury, but the time to take a risk like that is now. At least one, maybe 2 of the 5 young D-men (Reilly, Folin, Brodin, Dumba, Olofsson) will have a breakout year, in my humble opinion. Spurgeon is already a hell of a puck moving D. I am curious about Suter and Parise entering their decline.

That's a huge gamble. It leaves $13M cap space then next year and need to resign Granny, Nino, Haula, 3 young D.

Asked before, a Rangers fan. Rangers have several goalie prospects, why would we take Kuemper?

For 6.5 m, I would really have to sold on Stepan as a top centre. If not can always wait and do something, though it might take two years when some contracts expire.
