Honestly, if the Oilers are after wingers, I see Leafs as a better fit, especially because they can help on the right side. Not saying Athanasiou is not a good player, or wouldn't help. I can see a deal like Nylander and Brown (who McDavid played with in Erie) for Nurse, Bouchard and a 1st. Keep in mind that the point of the deal would be, at least from the Leaf's perspective, to lower than cap. They'd also, I am sure, be willing to trade some offense for defense.

Oilers aren't moving 3 top 10 picks for Nylander and Brown.. hard pass. Brown likely gets moved for 2nd round pick for cap reasons, or Oilers could just offersheet Kapanen at 4M and get him for a 2nd rounder
