A QUESTION FOR PENS FANS

Description
As a Pens Fan here I am questioning the "NEED" for GMJR to keep his 1st rd pick ?
- Like why this year? When we have traded every one for the last 5-6 yrs and then when we did draft in rd1 (Kappy) we traded him too??
- We only have 2-3 yrs left of Sid at top of game.
- 1-2 yrs of Geno at top of game
- 1-2 yrs before we trade Phil
- A healthy and Norris type season from Tanger

MY QUESTION IS :
A) Do u want the Pens to trade all picks and all prospects and go all out for 1 more cup in next 2 yrs.
OR
B) Conserve our prospects and picks and maybe win a round or 2 and waste the last cpl yrs of the core?

* For me I want them to trade everything and make it worth it bc the only way to get good again in NHL is to completely suck and finish last for 2 yrs after this 2-3 yr run we have left.

The thing is, even when Sid and Geno start to decline, they're still going to be good enough to build a winning team around.

I agree with you and go all in. But imo, there’s not much else JR can do. They have a solid team on paper, but nobody is playing with consistency.

It really depends on where the team is in the standings. If the team is playing real well, then go for it. If they aren't playing well, hold onto the 1st and draft somebody.

The thing though is this is a really deep draft. Yes ik a lot of other drafts are deep but thats after a few years, but this class is deep just as prospects. with the cap constraints the pens have, even with the savings from Schultz's injury they can't really trade their first for a guy with control. unless you send an offer of Jack Johnson, filip Hallander, Calen Addison, Jordy Bellerieve, and 2019 first and maybe another pick or two for Alex Martinez and Adrian Kempe/Tyler Toffoli

Well, they shouldn't trade their picks just for the sake of it. That's how they ended up with Ryan Reaves. If the right trade is available, then yes. However, if the trade doesn't put them over the top it isn't really worth it.

In past years, the Pens would have 2nd and 3rd round picks. This season, their best pick would be a 4th. I doubt they want their highest pick to be a 4th in the draft. Pens could look for help by dealing Maatta. They will need to clear some cap and he's the obvious choice with Schultz's return being imminent. They can still bring in someone decent, who wouldn't be a rental, without moving out their 1st.

If we move Maatta it will only be for a good player (top 6 wing or a great 3rd line C along with a young 3rd pairing Dman) like Faksa/Honka or Lehkonen/juulsen or Duchene or Krieder bc GMJR loves him and wont trade him unless he is winning that trade big ... PLUS i kno everyone on here only sees his speed but to real GM's Maatta has a ton of value..... PLUS, taking Maatta out of that Defense makes 28 or 73 get top 4 Dmen type min ... and all that does is make us just as bad as the D has been all year.

Someone with cap will have to go. JJ trade seems unlikely, so either Maatta, Pearson, Hornqvist... Problem is Pearson and Hornqvist values are low now, so Maatta could bag a good return. I don't think he gets as good of a return as you suggested, but maybe a Lehkonen straight up. Pageau or Tierney or Vesey are among others I see making sense. Realistically, Duchene/Kreider don't move unless a first is involved, and I don't want that. Faksa is just not gonna get moved unless you really overpay, and I think Pens want McCann as 3C. He's been pretty good since joining. As for who slots top 4, I could see Riikola or Pettersson getting the top 4 minutes and Id be fine with it.

I dont mean strait up in those trades ... just a starting point in each, like....
Maatta / B prospect or mid pick for Faksa / Honka
Maatta / 1st rdr for Duchene ... then another pick added if he would re-sign

All im saying is that GMJR values Maatta high AF and he is only moving him if we get a great return ....
he said in a interview last year on GMJR show that if he was to move Maatta a young Top 4 Dman with a fair cap hit that has rings and tons of play off exp. (he then mentioned) that it would take a game changing type player to get that kind of trade talk to even begin....

Fair enough. I just don't wanna give up our prospects/picks.
