Bye Bye Trouba

Description
My thoughts:

I feel like Sanheim and Trouba play a similar type game. Sanheim is playing on the top line currently in Philly, is a RHD and will not cost nearly as much as Trouba (I'm guessing).

Sanheim is also from just outside of Winnipeg, while Trouba gets to play in his American market.

Don't shoot me on trade value as some things could be tweaked...but I feel like Sanheim's contract on a longer term won't be more than 5m.

This could be a win for both sides, Jets get cost certainty, whilst Philly gets a better defenseman and they have the cap space currently to accommodate a 7m per player.

This would allow us to re-sign Myers as well (yes I know something else will have to give slightly to we are under the cap) but it is very close.

I didn't re-sign Chiarot due to this factor, and slotted in Oesterle as he would be a much cheaper option I believe for a 6th defenseman.

Thoughts?

Good thought about Trouba. It's getting Trouba agree to long term deal, when it looks like he wants UFA freedom next summer which will be stumbling point in a trade.

My counter argument would be this: Does Jacob Trouba want to stay in Philly long term? I get the whole 'Murica point, but if not, and there's no extension included, what's the point of Philly doing this? Yes, Trouba is an upgrade. But does Philly send a young guy who's already playing those top pair minutes, who could very well develop into an almost-as-good player, over for 1 year of Trouba? He probably ends up being very well paid as a UFA, signing in whatever market he chooses.

Both of you are 100% correct. This would absolutely be contingent on Trouba actually signing long term with the Flyers. Like you said, if he wants to become a UFA in a year and a half, the Flyers wouldn't do it.

He shoots left, but is playing on right side at least as of right now? He is also listed as a RHD. I don't watch the Flyers super often so I could be wrong, but that is what it is showing.

And why would Trouba agree to an extension? When all signs point to him wanting to be a UFA in 2020. No way i see Trouba signing an extension anywhere. I see him testing the market and he has earned that right.

Yeah he's playing on the right side with Provy but is a LH shot. The only young RH shot dman Flyers have in their system is Phil Myers who should be called up in the near future.

I almost wonder if Trouba wouldn't want to do a sign and trade cause he'd want to stick it to Chevy?
And if that's true then it leads to the question:
Even if the Jets are looking like they'll be a contender next season do you trade him with a one year deal to whoever wants him before the season starts for the best return you can get?
Or trade him at the deadline as a rental for whatever you can get for him?
Or just keep him for a playoff run and let him walk for nothing?

I wouldn't even doubt that haha, and those are all very good questions. I think either way Winnipeg decides to go, it's gonna be a close call. If we were in that position, I think Winnipeg has a solid cup window here...I would personally hold onto him for the playoff run as our "own rental." I feel like I would be in the minority with that choice, but you gotta go for it while you can.

I'm firmly in the move on before next season starts camp. Pick his brain as to markets he's most interested in playing in wether that's Florida, Detroit, NY or wherever and trade him to one of those teams if they're interested. Can't have all the questions lingering as next season where's on, I'd have zero interest in keeping him around as "their own rental", even if the return is a B-grade prospect and a 2nd good enough, see ya, thanks for coming out!

Not sure how Trouba signing a sign and trade is sticking it to Chevy, By doing that Chevy can ask for the moon in his value for Trouba. I don't see Trouba doing a sign and trade with Philly. Maybe Tampa or Florida or Detroit. But i don't see it in Philly.

Read what I said, Trouba would not want to do a sign and trade cause he'd rather just play his last year with the Jets next season and walk away a UFA after tge season is done so Chevy gets zero return for him hence sticking it to Chevy.

Yeah sorry mis-read your quote, I agree with you doubt he'd agree to a sign and trade. Not going to give Chevy the satisfaction of getting any thing decent for him.
