Budget Rental if Atlantic 3rd or WC

Description
If the Bruins are 3rd in the Atlantic or fighting it out for the Wildcard it might not make the most sense to buy a big rental this season. It could easily be a bad outcome to buy a high priced guy and then get bounced in round 1. The safer alternative could be to buy a very cheap rental like the team did recently with Drew Stafford, while saving assets to make a move in the offseason or possibly next years TDL.

Maroon is a decent player and would give the team an option to play instead of one of the young kids, because if the year so far is any indication, atleast one of them could be struggling at the time.

Joakim Nordstrom + whoever else aren't top 9 depth imo, so the Bruins are pretty thin in terms of veteran options.

I just hope the Bruins don't spend a boatload on a rental or even a 2 year contract like Schenn who I feel is overrated, overpriced and doesn't make the team outright better than Tampa or Washington.
Transactions
BOS
  1. Maroon, Patrick
Détails additionnels:
Maroon has a career .57 Points per game in the playoffs so he'd probably be useful. His role would be determined by which young forward isn't contributing enough come playoff time. It could realistically be 3rd line LW or RW or 2nd line RW when the playoffs get here.
STL
  1. Fitzgerald, Ryan
  2. Choix de 5e ronde en 2019 (BOS)
Détails additionnels:
Fitzgerald is decent but he's not that fast for his size and his size is smaller than average. He's been putting up solid numbers in the AHL and it's possible he sticks in a 3rd line role at the NHL level if he gets the chance. This isn't giving up a whole lot but Maroon is having a down season scoring wise and there are up to 24 or so possible rentals this season so it's likely there wouldn't be a bidding war on Maroon.

The guy has like 5pt points in his last 25 games and plays 10-11 minutes a night. Not to mention rumors were STL was close to putting him on waivers.

If Boston is going to make a "big move" the don't make a move at all and let the kids keep developing in the NHL.

What? That isn't even a proper sentence and is nonsensical. You think the biggest move is to do nothing? lol...

To piggy back you I can't see Don making a "big move" after the Rick Nash experiment back fired on them last year. It was an unfortunate injury but Don is too dedicated to the draft and keeping the talent that he likes in the system. Not a huge fan of the stand pat movement but I totally understand why Don feels the way he does. The road to the cup for Boston in 2011 was a series of baby steps and development starting in 2008 when they lost to the Habs in 7 games, and the trades to win a cup were made at the right time. It sucks that they're not in that "all in" contender mode right now but they're relevant and still competing. I'd say they're two years away from being true contenders unless they catch lightning in a bottle before that.
