Ottawa can take him, if Edmonton wants to try to get Bobby Ryan's career turn around. Maybe NYR will take him, if Edmonton takes Shattenkirk's contract back. Or NYI can take him only if Edmonton takes back Ladd. Also L.A. has D. Brown they can swap. 4 other bad contracts which the Oilers can hope to switch with. Unless they trade Lucic and add a good prospect and or high draft pick(s) to bribe the other team with.

I don't any team want to swallow that much cap for what it cost the Oilers to get rid of Lucic. Of course the other issue is Lucic's NMC. What is his motivation to go to lousy team with cap?

As an oilers fan, I just don't think he's even tradable. It's not only the 5 years at 6 million, it's also the stupid amount of it that's bonuses. It makes the contract almost impossible to buy out. Not to mention the full NMC. What team that'd be willing to take on that behemoth of a contract, would also be a team Lucic would waive his NMC for? He's settled down in Edmonton, can't see him waiving for a team that isn't contending.

He's on pace for 17 points this season, and even if he picks it up, I can't see him putting up much more than 20-25 points. The only good things is that Ryan Reaves got such a big contract this summer. I think that Lucic's physical game means some team may actually want him at 3 million. So maybe if we retain half his salary, we won't have to give up any assets at all to move him. But who wants to retain 3 million for 5 seasons? Teams with bad contracts like Ottawa, that we could potentially swap with, he probably won't waive for. It's just depressing to think about. I still like the guy though, really hope he can find some more success.

The most ED can hope 4 in trading Lucic, is taking back a bad contract, hopefully with shorter term.
Ericsson wouldn't be terrible, 4 example.
But ED really does need to lose his cap hit.
Eating $2mill may do it.
