You're a fan of the Blues, so that would tell me you know how much is in your minor league program. Given that your defense has 4 upcoming UFAs, but not nearly enough cap space coming off to cover future RFAs and acquire new talent, the Blues need to shed some cap AND reset your cap schedule.
By the way, the Tampa Bay pick the Rangers would be sending is a conditional pick, which the condition can continue to stand. Should Tampa Bay win the Stanley Cup, that second becomes a first round pick.

Bear in mind that the Blues are already complete at center, and have a ton of wing depth in the minors. The team needs defense and goaltending for a future. Getting more playing time for Dunn, Edmundson, Schmaltz and Walman should be a priority.
And, oh, by the way, your captain isn't a lock to stay beyond next season. Preparing for life after doesn't mean it should all go to hell. Having assets, both in cap space and youth to trade doesn't hurt.
