I’m imagining the media going absolutely insane as Matthews, Laine, Aho, Rantanen, Marner, Point all sign offer sheets

I’m not saying this will happen, I’m just thinking about if it did

Bridge is definitely the ideal way to go with the situation imo. Allow Callahan, Palat and Killorn to come off the books before Point really earns his money.

Either that or Point forces your hand in dumping Callahan somewhere now.

Tampa has to move someone or they are in trouble next year for sure. 9.3 in space if the cap is 82.5 and only 16 signed. I think it has to be Miller due to NTC/NMC by a lot of them. Expansion draft should be fun for Tampa as well. I do not see very many teams doing Tampa a favor with Cally, gotta use space to squeeze those without space.

Point will/must be resigned It will cost probably a good prospect or pick but Cally will be traded. Miller may also be traded (only other one w/o a NTC this year), salary cap casualty. That opens up 11 million and with Volkov and Stephens about ready we do not lose a step. Each year the old core will sacrificed to pay Vassy, Serg and now Cernak.

Wings should've close to $30 million to spend next summer, I can definitely see them going after either Matthews or Marner. At least make it tough on Toronto to retain both players. Especially if Yzerman does become our GM next summer.

could happen but tampa has other options and salary to dump so Point stays.

generally poor teams have cap space and don't want to risk lottery points in an offer sheet. but a team that thinks they might be playoffs with Point...such a Montreal, an offer sheet looks much more viable

Yeah yeah yeah we all know nobody is offer sheeting anyone. Guys, the league is still an old boys club. In order to rise in the ranks you got to play by the rules. If you want to be the new forward thinking young GM a la Chayka and you decide to break the unwritten rule, guess what? Nobody trades with you and no one wants to deal with you on anything. That's how they think.

Offer sheets are no longer a thing of reality. If they ever get to the point of where a team may actually think of doing it because a team like Tampa just simply cannot match, they'll just work out an actual trade. Not this "behind you back steal your best players" BS that everyone thinks still will happen.

Not too mention that if ever came to a team like TB losing Point,, how easy would it be to simply trade Palat or Killorn, etc to make the added space for the clearly more valuable player in Point. Actually funny enough, the threat of a offer sheet may just be a ploy to get a team to trade one of their other lesser but still valuable player to that team instead. Example would be MB threatens offer sheet of point so Brisebois moves Gourde to the Habs instead.

Habs get a player they'd need without having to overpay. TB gets extra cap to keep Point and the extra assets from the Gourde trade.

Exactly, That's why they just don't happen any more?
