Dude you can't even compare Doughty and McDavid one is a forward one is a defenseman. Who taught you about hockey?
Crosby is hands down the best player since Gretzky. Until McDavid has the cups, metals, and awards Crosby has you can't make that statement and have it hold weight.
McDavid is the most talented forward in a generation. It's not fair to knock him for not having won an Olympic gold medal, because NHL players weren't allowed to participate in the only Olympics that he was old enough to play in. Crosby didn't win his first Stanley Cup until his 4th season in the NHL, and he arguably wasn't even the best player on his team that season, with Malkin finishing higher in every statistical category in both the regular season and playoffs. The league obviously thought so too, as Malkin earned the Conn Smythe that year. McDavid doesn't have a Malkin on his team, yet he has still won the Ted Lindsay twice in a row as the best player in the league as voted on by the players. At this point of his career, McDavid has accomplished just as much, if not more than Crosby had during his 3rd season in the league (3 international golds for McDavid vs 1 for Crosby, 2 Ted Linsday awards vs 1 for Crosby, 1 Hart Trophy vs 1 for Crosby).
Doughty is certainly in the conversation for being one of the best defenseman in the NHL right now, but players like Lidstrom and Niedermeyer were a step above him, and players like Chara, Keith, and Weber are certainly in the same conversation. McDavid has only one possible comparable talent player this century. Sure, you can't directly compare them to each other because of the positions they play, but you can definitively say that McDavid is one of the top two at his position this century, while you can't say the same about Doughty.
I stick by my original assessment.
