        Why do you have Zaitsev making $3.6mil and Matthews making $3 mil? Does Toronto have some special deal with their players on ELC's?

        You seem to be making the same mistake I have made. ELC's are base. They can come with bonuses (See Panarin). These cap hits are applied to either the current year or follow seasons cap. Obviously better to take the hit now when developing the roster. My numbers were estimates without doing any research. There may be a max but I doubt it is less than $3m.

        The max bonus for an ELC defenceman is $850,000. Zaitsev actually received this in his 1 year ELC. ($925K base plus $850K) I am assuming the 3.6million offer is his RFA offer with no bonuses?
        As far as Auston Matthews is concerned, why would they include bonuses in his salary? They own his rights they are not competing with anyone for his services as in Panarin's or Zaitsev's case. Did Marner or Nylander get bonuses?

        Just checked out marners contact, same as zaitsev with 850k in performance bonuses. Looks like matthews max would be 1775000 aav provided bonus conditions are met.

        This article summarizes the bonus possibilities really well. Essentially though, most guys aren't getting more than $850,000. McDavid is likely a rare exception.

        Looks like $3,775,000 is the norm. I will change Auston to that.

        As for Zaitsev, this is a 2017/18 projection. New deal = more money.

        Performance bonus breakdown is:

        Maximum of $850k in schedule A bonuses
        Maximum of $2M in schedule B bonuses

        There are also league bonuses (paid out by the league, not the team) that do not affect the cap hit of the player if achieved.
