Don't no why Leafs constantly have to overpay to resign Marner. Please let's move on from Gardiner. Ozzy if he is NHLer, he gets more.

Remember that time Hall was traded for Larsson? I don't think anyone is else making that mistake.

Cause Marner has killed it since joining the Leafs and this year is projected to be even better. He could get 9 next year if he hits 80 plus points.

The thing about Ozzy is with bonuses he can get 1.8, this year. He's only only year away from being a UFA. If he's a NHLer and Leafs want him for a few years, I would say 2.75m. Marner, even 9m makes him the third highest paid right winger. That seems high to me for guy coming off his ELC. Look at Kucherov, he's getting 9.5m next year at age 26...closer to his UFA and he had 100 points last year.
I just think there is this believe that all these young RFAs deserve super start money Marner at 7.5m gets him in the top 8. And what has 20 goal scorer Nylander shown that he is deserving of top 8. money?
The Leafs and Dubas I would suspect are trying to paying comparables and no more. Many folks on CapFriendly think Nylander's 8m for 20/40/60 player is the new standard. It isn't.

There's also a big difference between Marner and Nylander. Nylander has proven he's best when with Matthews. Marner has proven he's arguably the best player on this team (yes I know that includes Tavares and Matthews). If anyone deserves more then 9 it's Marner (and Matthews). Unfortunately the new norm is for ELC guys getting super star money. (Thanks Chirelli)

I really don't think it is the new nor, JT Miller has similar stats as Nylander last season as 25 year old, and got 5.25m. If Marner is deserving of 9m, someone is going to offer sheet him that because the Leafs aren't going to give that much. Don't look at Draisaistl and maybe Eichel as the norm as lots of RFAs getting signed every year and they don't get UFA money. Even is Marner gets 80 points, he is still an RFA which doesn't get him top leverage in any $$$$ negotiation, unless there is an offer sheet.

Good luck with that cause all the big 3 see right now is Eichel, Draistel and McDavid. Nylander is fine to pass up and let hold up but if you think the Leafs have ANY leverage with Marner OR Matthews you're high.
