Canadiens Fans What do you want for Drouin

Description
I'd imagine y'all want another Center or Dman.

Maybe start with Hayes with an extension + Hajek/Lindgren/Rykov + ? And we build off that.

Not sure tbh, lmk MTL fans, I know he's much for discussion lately amongst y'all.

good question

Meskanen (blue chip)
Virta (Potential to reach NHL in 2-3 years )
Lindgren (Potential to be a 2nd pair D in 1-2 years)
2nd rounder in 2021

i mean there is also going for roster pick but we are looking to move people out to make room for youth right now
(i mean for Vlad we'd make it work but i'd prefer players who are developing the next 1-2 years minimum)

Namestnikov ,Lindgren and a 5th would do it to (Vlad is a UFA in 2 years and isnt as offensive as Drouin but still good and the same age which is where Lindgren balances things )

dont get me wrong Day is a beast but he's way to heavy and his skating is at an AHL level right now with no signs of him making the jump to the NHL's Speed .

the main point of any Drouin trade would have to be top level LD prospect like Lindgren , Pionik ,Hajek Lunkvist or Miller .

Virta ,Lindgren and a 2nd (conditional the same as your TBL pick is )
or
Meskanen ,Miller and a 2nd (same conditions )

drouin is only 23 and is loaded with potential and is on a very decent term and contract. he's also a french canadian. i dont see the habs trading him. he can be a 60 plus point winger. he drives offense. the season hasn't started well for him and thats okay. i wouldn't trade him. we already have good center prospects. we need LHD. but i wont trade an elite winger like him for a lhd. we'll prob draft one in the next draft

Lol so Chytil, Skjei, Howden, Miller, Namestnikov, and 2 Firsts is a no by your logic ??

you must be pretty uninformed about the Rangers roster and prospect pool if you think we couldn't afford Drouin ??

zero interest in Drouin. We're stocked with Centers and wingers who think they can play center. But good luck thinking a 23 year old forward has a ton of untapped potential lol. I think I'd rather Reinhart personally.

I stopped putting time stamps on when players untapped potential go away when Marchessault exploded into the NHL at 26, Yanni Gourde buried 20G in his first year @ 26, Derek Ryan becoming a 28 y/o rookie, Cam Talbots somewhat creating a goalie controversy with Lundqvist as a 26 y/o rookie, etc etc

Yes I think undrafted, undersized players with good analytics serve as a good comparison to Jon Drouin.

I wasn’t being completely literal. Obviously MTL would accept an outlandish offer, but they don’t want to trade Drouin, & won’t unless they’re getting an amazing player in return.

What does their background have to do with anything? They all play in the NHL and they all developed at different rates...not sure why you think that's funny tbh, but maybe you've got a unique sense of humor?‍♂️

Anyways if you want to get into players that we're drafted high, but took a little bit to get acclimated to the NHL here ya go:

Mikko Koivu 6th OA 2001->Full time NHL made in '05, best season at age 26
Claude Giroux 22nd OA in2006->Full time NHL made in latter of '08/'09, best season at age 29/30
Mark Schieffle 7th OA in 2011->Full Time NHL made in '13, best season at age 23
Blake Wheeler 5th OA in 2004->Full time NHL made in '08, best season at age 31
Kyle Turris 3rd OA in 2007-> Full time NHL made in mid/early '08/'09, best season at age 25

All listed above were top 10 picks who developed at a later rate then others and didn't have their best seasons until between 25-31 years of age.

Saying "But good luck thinking a 23 year old forward has a ton of untapped potential lol." is just a really bad take. Blake Wheeler had untapped potential until he turned 31!(and may still have more). You could argue Team around him makes better, but I'll respond to that with the eye test. Watch Wheels play in '08-'12 vs '13-'18 and you'll see the difference.

Not to mention that the human body doesn't really start slowing down your physical growth until 32-36 y/o, so you've essentially got from ages 0-32/36 to really grow yourself physically before seeing a decline or a slow down in your growth(studied PT and studying Kinesiology, so there's the fact check on those age numbers).

Now this is a good response, thank you for the insight! Makes sense too. Kids young and loaded with potential, best to wait and see, but as an outside fan I'd love to see him in a Rangers jersey ??

Listen, this argument is over since it's already been fleshed out with more graphs and numbers than we can mention and it doesn't look good for you.

https://hockey-graphs.com/2017/03/23/a-new-look-at-aging-curves-for-nhl-skaters-part-1/

But I am curious how you evaluate a player's best season. For example: Turris had his best scoring rates at 21, Giroux at 24, Scheifele at 22, Wheeler definitely had his best season on paper at 29, but it's interesting to see his ixGF/60 numbers (as you know the most robust figure we have for gauging a player's current and potential scoring) basically remained constant his entire career since he was 22, so it looked like it was the other parts of his game that stepped up (and of course his teammates Sticking Out Tongue)

Doesn't look good for me that I pointed out a large number of things to support my argument? Alright guy ??

And what're you basing scoring scoring rates on? Turris had a .38 PPG rate at 21 and a .78PPG rate during his age 25 season...

Please read the article. This is a well studied phenomenon. You'll learn something and it will make the discussion less inane.

But in regards to Turris. I'll play.

Turris at 21: 2.22 Points/60. 1.74 Primary Points/60. 2.86 Game Score/60. 3.97 rel CF%. 1.83 rel xGF%.
Turris at 25: 1.81 Points/60. 1.40 Primary Points/60. 1.96 Game Score/60. 0.11 rel CF%. -2.12 rel xGF%

The numbers speak for themselves.
