If you really believe that the Leafs RFA are NHLers they are going to get more than 1m.

Probably right. But they haven't really done anything at the nhl level to warrent a big raise... could I have gone with 1.2M for some of them? Sure, but I am playing with this at work, I wasn't going to split hairs over a few hundred thousand.

No way stamkos signs for only 8.5mil especially having to be a Canadian resident he'll be losing out on money. They'd have to go over 1.5mil compared to other teams offers to split even with his take home cost. Taxes suck

Agreed about no way he signs for 8.5 million but... He is getting paid in American dollars and will be spending in Canadian dollars. If you look at the exchange that's ~ a 25% gain.

Right he's not losing money in exchange rate but in being a Canadian resident. In Toronto there's a proposed 53.53 percent federal/provincial tax if he's a resident

I believe if stamkos comes it is because he wants to play for the leafs, and he will come at a discount. The leafs management has been making great decisions and I'm sure they won't be making him a max offer. If he is a leaf come july it will be for no more than a $9M cap hit. Remember that isn't real dollars just the aav. Also as far as money lost in taxes and gains based on currency. He's also going to make a killing in jersey sales and sponsorships.

Toronto and Ottawa have the highest taxes in the league just above Montreal. And the exchange rate is a moving number you can't really on. Someone said 25% but the dollar is currently at 80 cents US so thats 5 points lost right there. The dollar was a par or even higher then the US greenback not all that long ago. So if you are signing a 7 year deal saying well I'm saving 25% based on the dollar then you are not thinking clearly.

If Stamkos signs in Toronto for 8.5 mil then he REALLY REALLY REALLY wants to play in his home town because he is leaving a lot of cash on the table.
