Description
So how can't the leafs keep every one there is a difference between what a person wants and what their value is. I could ask my boss for a 50% raise but thats doesn't mean that i will get that or it puts me in market value. My point is if you actually sign players at market value at the time of their signing we are able to get by next year.

so lets say you don't pay nylander his asking price......or Matthews or marner how good is the team going to be without them? if you ask your boss for a 50% raise and they says no there is 30 other teams willing to make a completive offer......I highly doubt this relates to your current job so apples and oranges .......

The point is market values. No player under control of a team is overpaid so why would nylanders contract be different. long as the leaf pay market value they will be fine

As the cap goes up, so does the market price. Eventually someone will get offersheted too. Unless you are saying Mathews is worth equal to eichel as a percentage of cap

I have gone over this in some past posts but I will say it again.

Offersheets I think will soon be a normal thing, but not in the sense that fans think of them. Offersheeting a star is a waste of time, opposing teams will match it unless its utterly insane, in which case they will take the 4 first rounder.

Where an offer sheet makes sense is when a team has to sign their top guys and some young promising depth players are needing contract as well. So Toronto next season.

In the Leafs situation, they will prioritize Marner, Matthews and Nylander. That or Dubas is an idiot, which he clearly is not. So once they are signed they will be a lot closer to the cap and will have to sign Kapanen, Johnsson, Leivo, Orzhiganov etc. As they whittle that list down, they'll get closer and closer to the cap ceiling and that is when offer sheets will make sense.

Let's say Leivo scores 50 points this year (Just a hypothetical), he could be looking for a deal that pays him 3+ mill a year and want 3-5 years. Toronto just won't be able to afford to hand out many deals like that. So an offer sheet of 3+ would get a team a decent depth player with potential to progress further and cost only a 2nd round pick.

That's is where offer sheets make the most sense.

Unless the Leafs can circumvent the cap by paying the kids with fortnite credits, there will be significant move(s) before next season

Our backend has and will continue to sabotage any attempt to get out of the first playoffs round. Signing Tavares is a big deal, we're not chumps just happy to be invited to the playoffs anymore.

Would just like to take the time to thank your team for handing out such a shitty contract to Eichel. It should have came with some sort of clause that it couldn’t be used as evidence in an arbitration hearing. My point is Eichel is not worth his cap hit percentage. In a few years it may turn into a fair market value deal but it will never be a good deal.

Nice of you to point that out as I was responding to a leafs fan saying such a thing never happens

No but you did try to use his contract as leverage. I think every sabres fan cringes at that money when you get down the road about 2-3 years and you’re really trying to compete.

He is almost a closer comparable to nylander and very close to marner...

But the following year we gain 11 million more in cap with Horton and Marleau off the books

We don't cringe at all.

Your comparisons are laughable.

For starters, Eichel is a center. He also has 121 points in his last 128 games (last 2 seasons) thats 77.5 points per 82 games, on the worst team in the NHL. his possession stats, puck carry states, points per team point stats are insane.

hes also still 21
