If were going to tank, might as well tank hard. I think Seabrook for Eriksson has made sense for a long time. I've made posts about it before and it makes sense. Probably have to retain on Anisimov 2 million to ensure that 1st rounder. Arty at 2.55 is a steal. Don't even bother buying out Horton he's only got 2 years left, and if the hawks take this route, they don't really need the extra space in those 2 years.

If the buyout calculator is correct, buying him out reduces the cap hit, but not the length. Could be wrong but meh, retaining on Anisimov is hard, we’re trading him in the division, and assuming WPG wants him I think they should pay the first rounder for the two players. That’s not to say that salary retention is out of the question, but we already retained in Keith and we would be tying our salary retention spots up for 4 years.

Just figured I would get you involved in this with the author here.

What in the actual **** is that Toronto trade lol. That is such a long loud no. Hainsey and Horton are both off the books next season and we kinda need hainsey.

Not sure if either of you saw any leafs pre season but sandin looks good... really good. And then a first and a second all to blow up our cap next season?

Kieth could be the piece needed for wpg to put them over the top especially at the right price and anchor the second pairing with Buffy, and it would help actually biting the bullet on trading Trouba at the draft and or losing Myers in free agency. Ld would be set a matter of getting Trouba dealt or resigned and or Myers upgraded or resigned and lock up the rd. Not sure on wpg needing any forwards really they are a little top heavy with little and pearrault contracts holding up some talented kids

What do you need Hainsey for next season? Keith comes at a retained salary and solidifys your blue line. He can provide experience to a young team like that and is still a top 4 Dman. In this deal you actually get cap relief. You get 4 million cap from Keith, but you subtract 8.3 million with the two cap dumps. If you want Hainsey for some reason you could keep him, but give us a different cap dump so we can have a better trade. (If no other cap dump is included I’m inclined to bump retained salary on Keith to 2.5 and take the third out.)

I was made aware from leafs fans that they were looking for a top 4 LHD... if that has changed then perhaps I change Keith’s final destination.

Wpg could use the cup experience and has the youth and or cap dumps to make it work only thing is in division, but worse case he’s a bottom pairing mentor to the youth.

I might have a tad of bias here, but Keith is not a bottom pair guy. Unless he’s on a really good team.

No it’s the right side but I don’t buy into that. Think we will do just fine with what we have. Hainsey is off the books next year. We have plenty of cap space this season, it’s next season that things get tight. You have taken no cap for next season and dumped Keith’s salary into the mix.

Hortons contract has 2 years left I believe. So if you take his cap hit away from Keith’s then the savings are less than desirable. How about I take out Hainsley, increase retention on Keith to 2.5, take out the third and offer to take a contract that you see as a cap dump (this is adding to Horton)

My thought was year 3 4 5 worst case scenario mentor some youth on bottom pair save wear and tear for playoffs and as injuries mount creep up the depth chart once again

We are literally piled with left D. Horton is on ltir next year so no cap hit at all. We are a young team and don’t really have any need for an aging Keith with 5 years left on his contract.

Leafs are very stable at LHD. Taking away Hainsey from the right side, just makes it so impractical for the Leafs. Strange how the Hawks traded away assets to rid themselves of Hossa's LTIR but now acquire one. in Horton.

Horton has a very friendly contract compared to Hossa’s, shorter term and can be easily bought out. I hated moving Hossa’s contract.

No, players on LTIR cannot be bought out. I think the Hawks traded Hossa because there is a chance that he is cleared medically to play. Then Arizona takes his cap hit, though stays retired. Hawks couldn't afford the cap hit.
