I like the value in Necas but I think the Oilers would ask for Hamilton if Leon is going the other way.

I had never actually thought about dealing Hamilton... pretty sure the canes fans would lose their minds over the thought of losing necas and Hamilton lol. You may be right though.

That Duchene trade. Seems like a big gamble for the Canes to give up young players and likely lottery pick, just the oft chance they can make the playoffs with a one year rental.

I think the intent would be to resign duchene. Maybe the first is the condition on this. With Williams and martiniok walking and the cap at 82m this should leave them enough to resign their three rfa’s and duchene. The big if is the goaltending. They would probably not have the room to upgrade there and if it is a repeat of last season they may have issues resigning duchene.

If we start from the assumption that Edmonton would CONSIDER trading Draisaitl, I think you'd have to change the 2nd to a 1st and add one of Carolina's four prospects on LW (where Edmonton is weak). I still think Faulk and two of Foegele/Kuokkanan/Maenalanen/Saarela for Nugent-Hopkins fits both teams' needs better. And maybe Hogberg in the Duchene deal as a possible shot at Carolina's goalie problem.
