Description
It is scary but this makes too much sense, dont hate me I do not work for TSN. If Willy wants to get paid because he is a stud, he should, but it isnt in Toronto. I love you dude but you arent the man, you might be 6th. If he wants 8.5 for 8 years, the Blue Jackets will give you the farm. He could be 1C or 2C.
You know Panarin is leaving if I am Dubas I call today September 2018 and I ask for the Agent. I sell Panarin on winning cup after cup with this super team. If you watch the Leafs you know they have 12 defenseman. Their entire AHL team is on the Leafs. Pay Panarin he plays with Matthews 2018 has grose numbers no way Marner out performs. All of those deals start in 2019 Panarin 8.5 Matthews 11 and Marner has to be less.
Johnsson cheap, Kap cheap. Defense cheap, top 9 is just disgusting.

I want Willy but if he thinks he should get 8, send him to Columbus, he can convince Seth Jones to stay. Panarin hangs with Zaitsev and Ozzi in the GTA, he also gets to laugh. Chicago sent him away from a would be dynasty, he gets to start one with Matthes, Marleau, Tavares, Kadri, Reilly, Marner. That's a pretty solid all-star team. I don't know, it makes some cents.
400 k in cap space, reasonable contracts, full roster.

at least 1M short on the Panarin contract, he will get 9.5-10 especially since he wants to explore FA it seems.

Some of those RFAs signings were short changed just to sign Panarin. Panarin (or Nylander) has to come in much lower than 8.5m

I agree that for long term cap management you're right. Panarin is a UFA. When CHI traded him he was quoted saying "that's business baby". Panarin isn't giving any discounts to anyone. (With the caveat that he's just not going to a small market period) I think TOR is much better served with Nylander's RFA status for a lesser contract.

Disagree. In Toronto he could get 2 to 3 million in endowments, Dubas is sellingthat to all of the players. In Columbus you get nothing in Toronto Scotiabank, Vitamin Water, RBK when the Leafs are good the money is good and this team would be very very good.

Yes exactly, you keep the quality and send away the quantity. If one of those Rfas want more they can play in there American League this is the Pit Model. Pay your big boys and send away the replacement level players. If any of those winger want more they can play elsewhere, Moorr, Bracco, Marchemnt could ll fill a bottom 6 role for 700k. It's the way it works. The cap is easy when you have an entire AHL team of NHL ready players taht make no money!
That's why the Leafs are icing 2 different NHL teams for preseason. If Bracco can do a job, if Moore is Connor Brown trade 2.1m and replace it with 750k yiu create 1.4 in cap space and run the system again.

It works fellas, other GMs dont know how the Leafs can sign these guys. They have Pridum and Dubas for a reason, this is how you do it.

True, but if Nylander is unreasonable and you can get Panarin at 8.5 or 9, this means you knock down the Marner number. Mitch can argue that he is better than Willy, he is not better than Pararin. If Panarin is 8.5 or 9 immediately Marner is at 7. ThisCaps your wingers just like Tavares caps Matthew's I think financially it is quite smart. Mitch is better than Willy, not better than a top 10 player in the League.

For the most part I agree. The only place I deviate is that a lot of these young contracts (these days) aren't given out for what you've actually done...It's what you're projected to do. I personally have a problem with this, but it's just the way things are I guess. Did Eichel deserve $10M for completed accomplishments??? HECK NO...not even close! I'm not saying he's a bad player at all, but it's a projection for sure. Why this comes into play (And Specifically why I chose Eichel as the comp)...Big Willy, My Man Mitch, AND Especially Matthews are gonna get PAID. Matthews contract STARTs...BASE...$10.5M because of Eichel and I doubt Tavares is the limit you're counting on. Back to Nylander though I could see a trade AND I do agree that Panarin deserves a higher contract (than either Willy or Mitch) for sure. Maybe, the target should be Seth Jones though??? I don't see Panarin staying in TOR because they're going to be cap tight very soon and "That's business baby"

I thought about Jones as well but 1 I think that is a no from Columbus but 2 I think the Leafs plan is cheap young pick movies. Now if you can add a top 5 like Jones I am all for it but I would rather our top 9 be absolutely terrifying and then let the left side help the right side out. Polak being gone make ethe Leafs better I think Holl can play in the NHL if you have Holl Zaitsev and Liliegren then you have an OK right side that will make less than 7 mil total for 2 to 3 years. Then as the cap goes up you can pay Dman but I would take Panarin because if Panarin plays with Matthews I seriously believe Matthews could go 50 goals and 50 assists.

The Tavares could go 40 and 50
Marleau 30 Matthews 50 Panarin 35-40
Hyman 20 Tavares 40 Mitch 30

200 goals in the top 6. That is something special.
