Failed miserably on the last one, my apologies. Would like some helpful criticism on this one. Hopefully I didn't badly underpay again, or overpay.

So we are basically getting 2 Gardiners for 1 Gardiner and giving up also two good young wingers and 1st rounder..

Make a trade if you want, but please don't add these completely unrealistic and unpractical...signs an extension as part of the trade.

Well, I actually put that there so I didn't have people saying that I was getting Barrie and Girard for a year of Gardiner

Assuming we were to trade for Barrie(forget Girard), what would you be giving up?

But you would be. Extension at trade are just so unrealistic. Then you have to say Barrie is resigning with the Leaf in two years. Where does the madness end?

Would changing it to Gardiner signing as a ufa instead of an extension at the deadline have made more sense?

No and I'll tell you why. Here's the scenario. Leafs are in serious Cup run mode in February. So with those outrageous sign and trades, the Leafs management goes to Gardiner and say " You're not wanted here, but try to make a extension deal with Colorado. By the way, if can't make deal, don't worry you are always welcomed back to play for the Leafs for a few more months." Just what you want an unhappy player and spreads the news to his teammates.
Gardiner certainly no motivation to resign with the Avs (or the Leafs) once the season is over, if it wasn't a sign and trade. He's a UFA and once he has gone this far he might as well look what all 31 teams have to offer. I Doubt if Gardiner would be an offered an eight year contract by anyone taking to age 37, so it looks like a 7year contract is the max.
Actually the original deal was pretty fair value wise. Just adding the IMO the unrealistic extension just takes away from the heart of the trade.

These trades are killing me... I’m done defending leafs fans.... if they’re not trying to butcher someone else’s team they are doing it to ours.

You do realize you just traded our future 1lw our current 3rw and a first for a player we do not need right?

I agree with you. Two years ago, a last place team and now a contender. I wouldn't do the trade....as posted but if the Leafs were in a "hurry" it does make sense. Leafs would gain one year of Barrie over Gardiner plus Girard for Kapanen. Grundstrom and the pick.
I'm with you...I think Kapanen and Grundstrom could solid NHLers even this season. And our RHD situation is going to work itself out. Earlier in the day, someone had the Leaf making trade with Columbus.
Interesting that Columbus with Jones, Werenski, Savard on defence and Bob in net.....a pretty impressive group, allowed just four more goals less than the Leafs and their lousy Dmen last season.

Barrie and Girard? Are you high

Why would the avs blow up their D core to take a downgrade in Gardiner, singing him to a terrible contract
