Wow this is actually really well thought out. Might have to add a little more to MTL but I don't think CBJ can possibly say no to that. Only thing, the defense looks weak....

Yeah, I agree with you. I thought myself a deal that could strengthen the Chicago's defense, but I'm stuck in between a rock and a hard place when considering if this really helps the team in a longer scale...

The deal is:
Chicago Blackhawks
Justin Faulk

Carolina Hurricanes
Brandon Dubinsky
Henri Jokiharju
2019 4th round pick

What do you think?

So essentially you're giving up Anisimov, Forsling, Kruger, Murphy plus 1st, 2nd, 4th round picks for Panarin and Dubinsky. Dubinsky at this stage gets you 10 goals and 40 points for about $5M per year. Seems like a lot to pay for Panarin. Hawks are probably better off to keep those round 1-2 picks considering the defense is likely to be a problem for another year or two.

I don't think Carolina does that even though everyone knows they have to move Faulk. Doubt they take on Dubinsky.

Quite true. But if they want to be higher in the standings this season when compared to the last one, they need to make some big moves. Currently, the team is closer to the bottom 10 than the top 10. But not after this trade. They have two amazing forward lines and mediocre defense - sounds like an example of Toronto to me, which is a playoff team.

I think they have no reason to not take it though. Jokiharju is extremely good prospect for their future and they could use Dubinsky as their lower line center. Plus he helps them to get closer the salary cap minimum.

Hamilton Pesce and TVR are all RD and under 26 though. It's not like they necessarily need a RD prospect for another couple years. Plus they have Mckeown in the system. CAR really doesn't need D prospects. Maybe move Ejdsell instead?

These are all nice trades and maybe I'm in the minority but I'd rather have patches for 2m less than panarin if it means we can keep the 1st and murphy, who would really help round out that left side D

Wouldn't be too surprised if that type of offer is already on the table between Chicago and Montreal for Pacioretty. But I'm hoping the Habs are looking for a younger return than that, as Anisimov does not really help beyond 1-2 years and they have other Left D prospects already who have similar upside as Forsling. But who knows maybe Bergevin would accept if he has no better offers.

I don’t think the have to move Faulk at all. With two years of term left and close to the cap floor, they can afford to be patient. The only players that they’ve expressed interest in are Saad and Schmaltz. CHI has declined those options, so everyone has moved on.
