Gardiner is really overrated. Trouba is way better than that IMO.

who exactly overrates him? everyone rips him apart because of he defensive issues even tho they are over blown. Trouba's best year is 33 points, while gardner had 43 last years and 52 this year. not to mention trouba has only played over 65 games once, and gards rarely misses games. health is a huge factor especially for top 4 d-men.

I gotta believe Jets would like two years of Trouba versus just one year of Gardiner. There is "no problem" with Trouba. It's just contract negotiations. Why would having Trouba going to arbitration next summer for his final Jet season would be any more of a problem that the expiring contract of Gardiner?

I actually don't mind this trade, a developing Jeremy bracco taking an aging Mathieu Perrault's spot on the PP would be deadly down the road, otherwise he wouldn't get huge minutes at this stage but gardiner taking bottom 3 minutes and replacing trouba on the second line pp would be good. Trouba would be an obvious defensive upgrade for the leafs.

Well if this trade was even close to happening, i would like to think the jets would be smart enough to negotiate an extension before the trade was final. not sure what that number would be or how many years but it would have to be done.

But sign and trades don't happen. The Leafs aren't going to allow their player to negotiate a deal with another team, which may or may not happen. It isn't a question of the Jets of being smart, it's a question of these sign and trades don't happen. Not picking on you Griffin95, but it seems to a theme on this site.....can't think of good deal, then add the silly sign and trade caveat.

It's hard to have the same argument with leafs fans all the time, nobody wants to give you their better dman or whatever for a gardner bracco package... every leafs fan knows that Gardiner is bad in their heart but think other teams have no idea and will only look at his inflated stat line.... news flash, we all know hes bad, nobody wants him plus hes a ufa at the end of the year so he has even less value

Actually I wish we could keep Jake, he’s actually a skilled guy. Even his defensive play is pretty good. We can’t afford him or trouba, besides trouba doesn’t want to play in Canada.

His agent Kurt Overhardt mentioned it, When he was sitting it out a couple seasons ago. He said Canada isn't an option for Trouba period. Especially Toronto. Got news you're not getting 2 years of Trouba for only one year of Gardiner. And besides Gardiner is a turnover machine.

I'm not even sure if adding a 1st would get it done...Gardiner is a UFA next year....Trouba is an RFA.

If Trouba needs be traded, Winnipeg will let him negotiate a new contract with interested parties....and the package would reflect the value of Trouba on a long-term deal.

It’s the exact same principle. Jets don’t need to downgrade their defense, **** up their defense handedness and take a useless forward.

One side is a lot stronger than the other....and it's not the left side....Winnipeg would do well to swap a good RD for a good LD.

This trade is bad value....there's no reason to make up other reasons to **** on it.

And Bracco isn't "useless". He's a 2nd round pick (that's living up to his draft expectations at minimum).

Dude this was a completely hypothetical trade for the LEAFS. Its the type of trade they should target. Im not a jets fan so im not saying they would/should do this. Also, im not the type of leaf fan that goes out and says we should be getting every player out there. Very rarely do i see a trade "rumor" that i think is possible, but there was turmoil between Trouba and the Jets, the Jets are stronger on the Rright side compared to the left, and they need a cheap wing prospect to be able to come up in the next few years. With those reasons, i looked at Jake and Bracco and said that is a hypothetical trade that is possible.
