Gallager is a fine player but doesn't really make sense to acquire. A Kessel trade could make sense because the team still would have Rust and Hornqvist signed long-term and Sprong to take Kessel's role. A long-term left winger makes far more sense to acquire that Gallagher.

As for the Schultz-Letang thing. Sure, you can put him in Letang's role and will produce similarly, at least point wise. But people like to leave out the fact that Letang plays against all the top competition while Schultz has been sheltered, even in the year Letang was injured. Letang plays against the best guys (and still puts up great possession numbers) and is a good penalty killer.

MTL is rebuilding. Not trading for 30+ year olds........ Even with Kessel and Letang MTL doesn't make the playoffs this year so whats the point? This a trade a team trying to make a cup run might do. Not a team that finished 4th worst in the NHL the year prior.
