The trade is fair just because I’m not sure who the prospects are... I’m assuming they’re decent. The only thing missing is a first going to Columbus.

The prospects are fringe NHLers at best, maybe Borgman turns into a top-6 D. I don't think 1 year of Panarin turns into Pesce.

Thanks. If that’s the case they would need to add more to Columbus.

Borgman played 48 games for the Leafs before losing his spot to Dermott and getting injured. Timashov is a lot like Johnsson, in the sense that he's continued to increase his production every year with increased ice-time. He's an NHL 3rd liner or below avg 2nd liner at best. As for the 1st round pick, I figured the the inclusion of a mid-level prospect in Timashov and Borgman who could play on CBJ 3rd pairing warranted just a 2nd.

If this could be done, I'd literally explode. Amazing deals for TO and they are not unfair either.

Also Canes fans, you have 4 above average right handed defenceman, you really should trade 1 and only Hamilton will be worth what you think Pesce will bring back, Pesce is half the value of Hamilton. He's a very good defenceman but he's not nor ever will be, a Norris candidate. He's a guy that will play 20+ minutes a night of safe, smart hockey, which is good but its not worth a top offensive player, multiple picks or top prospects. He's worth a late first rounder, a 2nd and a good prospect or a 3rd and a top 6 forward over 25 years old. Anything more and you'll just be walking around telling everyone how awesome your defence is again while everyone else outscores you to the playoffs.

Carolina would be getting something that they've needed for a long time in Panarin as an elite offensive forward. They also have the depth on defense to gamble with losing Pesce who would likely be on their 3rd pairing. Maybe include an extension for Panarin in the trade.

Maybe with the extension in place, the deal goes through but we also need to keep in mind that the Canes aren't the most stable team financially, so giving Panarin the money he's worth (minimum 9M) would be a bit risky for them. They also just drafted Svechnikov, so maybe he can be the elite player they need. If they were to trade Pesce, or any D now, they could use some help up the middle, maybe a 2nd line C.

Before the Hurricanes were sold, I would have agreed with you. However, their new owner is not only a billionaire but with the moves they've already made this summer, another big move shouldn't be a surprise.
