Hard no on that Carolina trade, it kills the insane depth that TO has up front and marginally improves the defence. Terrible trade for TO, the best two players in the trade are Nylander and Kadri.

Just stop with this Carolina nonsense. Carolina is supposed to be this defensive powerhouse but they allowed more goals than TO. TO will have the best offence in hockey and a defence that will be improved just with the addition of Tavares. Why take that depth and trade it for nothing.

Well, you're right that the deal is huge with a lot of moving part. I don't see the Hurricane sacrificing their future, which is basically what this deal involves, and I am referring to Bean and Necas specifically. I don't think the value is terribly off, I just don't see such a blockbuster deal like this happening any time soon.

I don't either but Carolina is certainly looking to make a huge statement and Leafs if they are at all concerned about cap moving forward aren't looking to move a Nylander one for one! Carolina also in a make the playoffs now mode, so sacrificing "some future" for some present might have some merit.

I don't disagree with your outlook of Carolina, I am just not sure (a) some of those pieces you've proposed are basically untouchable, even though I hate using that word and (b) I think the Leafs, to some degree have their hands tied with trading a couple of players you've proposed, specifically Nylander and Kadri, with their pitch that landed them Tavares.

If there was a team that I thought meshed well with Toronto in terms of need, I would think it's Anaheim. With a couple big RFAs they still need to sign and being cap-strapped, I would think a deal for Josh Manson might be possible, if Toronto was willing to part to Kasperi Kapanen and perhaps some sort of futures as well. I'd also look to the Wild, who are bit of a question mark to me, in terms of direction, but it would be significantly more expensive to pry Matthew Dumba away from them.

trade value quite reasonable. leafs would really be hurt at centre going with necas as the # 3 guy. yes he has potential but still. don't know how leafs manage the cap next year with big raises for matthews, marner and tevo unless a big salary is traded.

We'll you should have over $25M to play with assuming a modest rise in cap! Don't forget Kappy!

Quality over quantity..

This looks like something out of NHL 18, where you take advantage of Carolina players' trade values
