A first round pick who has 10 points 4 years after his draft year underperforming almost every other 1st round pick that year is much closer to a bust than a key piece for a stud rhd

10 pts cause hes behind the deepest RW situations in the NHL and has been playing in the AHL? Why do people like your self need to exaggerate to try and make people look stupid...it only makes you look that way you do realize this right?

Hmmmm.... good question. Both are very good players. Blues are going to be up against the cap after signing RFA's (Edmundson, Fabbri, Jaskin, etc.) Para makes 5.5 a year. Nylander just ave 6 I believe. How about Para and Fabbri for Nylander and Liljgren and a late 2019 pick?

And thats quite sad. Im not saying that kapanen is as good as marner but if he was given more ice time he would put up 40-50 pts a season most scouts believe this this is why kapanen has been in the rumour mills as much as nylander. You put that with a quality d prospect in liljegren and i might need to up this but to imply these are junk or busts to act smart really deminishes how much people will respect your opinion.

kapenen is not a bust. he's still young and can prove him self. but at most he's a 45 point winger who is a good depth player. but he is in no way an elite winger.

A framework might be there

I just don’t see the value in trades between two teams on the upswing where 1 side trades a good young player for 2-3 lesser pieces. (Kapanen + for parayko or Tanev + for Nylander)

Teams on the upswing looking to deal with each other for upper echelon talent need to make it a ‘hockey trade’ for either side to have any incentive to pull the trigger

Not bad it's an option but that was one of the reasons i proposed Kap and liljegren was due to the cap issues they will have but if it cost nylander i think they will shop this package somewheres else.

I agree for the most part, as a trade def needs to benefit both sides. Lets see where the Blues are down the road into the season, as they still have some major questions in net and might need to hold onto Parayko for defensive help. I think the Leafs have a better chance at nabbing a player like Tanev from the Nucks to fill in the gap at D. You guys might eveing be able to steal him away as Benning might be the worst GM in the league. You think Tanev would fit the Leafs style on D?

He does fit what they need when healthy but thats the problem for me he can't seem to stay healthy enough to make it worth it. But yes my belief is they are a quality shutdown fman away from being the best team in the NHL.

Probably right. Blues and Leafs have been trading partners these past years now, and both are ready to win now. That being said, I actually still like the upside to Kapanen.... but more likely than not he will be traded at some point. Hey, any way you guys could take Steener back...? Can you clear some cap for him? wink All joking aside, I think the Leafs have a better chance at landing Chris Tanev.

Depends on the asking price for tanev. I’m not a big fan and don’t think he upgrades our D a whole lot. If they want to trade him for a second and a prospect. Sure. Otherwise I’d rather go big-game hunting.

Agreed that a deal like this likely waits til mid season or next off season. Not sure what value they’d have, but I’m sure leafs would kick in sparks or pickard into any deal with not much expected back

I think they could actually land Tanev for the price you state above. No joke as he is on the last year of his contract and the injuries have been a problem. That being said, I think Connor Carrick could really quietly impress like he did last year ( 4g 8A 12p +5) I expect him to continue to get better.

The trade helps the Leaf short term,,,,Parayko for four years for one year of Gardiner and Kapanen. It's whether the Leafs want to trade Liljegren that really the issue. If you think he is going to be NHL ready in 2019/20 and with much longer term as life....then you don't do the deal. Immediate gratification for Parayko then maybe you do the deal.

If Liljegren developed into a parayko type and on a team friendly deal...it’d probably be a best case scenario

Well then let’s just do Parayko for Nylander + Carrick+ sparks and call it a day, lol.

Blues fans seem a bit split over whether they value parayko or Pietrangelo more. What’s your sense?

I think I would be ok with that proposal, lets see where the two teams are after 4 months into the season. Blues could be knocking on the Leafs door earlier than expected in they suffer the same Offensive injuries they normally do.

On your question about Pietro or Parayko: It really isn't a question to me who the franchise Defensemen is. Pietro last year (15G 39A 54 pts) Colton played to about half that production, and he really didnt seem to progress like I thought he would. Pietro is the man!!! Thats not to say that Colton isnt going to get better, but for me there really isnt a value argument. And I think that would be the general consensus of the Blues faithful.
