Ahh, good point on the draft being in Van. You would hope Benning would keep the 2019 1st pick to satisfy the fanbase. I will be happy to take a pick in 2020 then, because if the Blues continue to tank, and miss the playoffs like it is going now, I believe they will get there 1st rd pick back from Buffalo...? I believe that is the case.

Tarasenko
Would be a good trade for the Nucks as they dont have to give up a first and I bet Vlad would thrive for some reason. I like getting Dahlen as he has potential to be a top 6 forward. Is Olli going to be a bust or a good D player? Too much risk for the Blues and they <strong>have to get a 1st back for Tara</strong>. How about a 2019 1st rd pick, a 2020 3rd rd pick, Jake Virtanen and Olli J or Dahlen for Vlad and Schmaltz?
On another side note, Jim Benning is a terrible GM, though not as bad as Cherilli. I think he would make a trade that would hurt the Nucks unfortunately.( i.e overpaying for Vlad)

I respectfully disagree, unless you believe the the Blues are still going to make the playoffs this year. Still not sure, but this trade may make even more sense to me as the trade deadline approaches in November.
Also, I believe Gardiner would sign w/ the Blues if the trade transpired.

I think it is fair for both sides, but be aware Gardiner would have to agree with an extension. Keep in mind that if Grundstrom projects like I believe he will, the Leafs will be trading a top 6 forward... (they can spare the offense though) I think the Leafs would even just give up their 1st in 2019 altogether, but that is up for debate.

Grundstrom has the potential to be a top 6 power forward and I believe Gardner would sign an extension with the Blues and could actually be a productive player as he escapes the bright lights of Toronto. Quite fair imo.

Day after Halloween roster for the boys in blue

Fabbri-Thomas-Barb/Sosh is a ridiculously good fourth line with grit, skill, and speed. Also, there’s definitely going to be games where Bozak/ROR/Schenn are sick or injured and Thomas will get his shot in the top 9. Armstrong even said Thomas would start the year as the 4c and the potentially center Tarasenko by Christmas. There’s always still the chance that Thomas will be sent back to Hamilton or released to Canada for the WJC, but that would mean the Blues would lose him for a full year. Do you really want Sundqvist’s 2 career goals and 44% face off percentage centering the 4th line every night? The lines should look like this:
Schwartz-Schenn-Tarasenko
Sanford- O’Reilly-Perron
Steen-Bozak-Maroon
Fabbri-Thomas-Barb/Sosh</div></div>

Sure that is a good forth line! Yes, I know. He has actually played the last 2 games just over 10 mins which I agree, is good for him. But alluding to my point earlier, with some forwards coming back, I am guessing he will go under 10 mins a night unless he impresses somewhat like he did in the last game against Chicago (which he could do). Still, I wish somehow he would be up on the third line, or even alongside Tarasenko, as Armstrong suggested. Time well tell. As for Thomas going back to Hamilton, I think he has grown all he could from Major Junior and that the Blues should keep him here until the inevitable injury bug hits to slot him in at a higher line. As for Sundqvist..... well I cant really argue there. But the coaching staff seems to like him, and I thought he had a decent game against the Blackhawks.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>STLBlues17</b></div><div>I disagree, unless Armstrong hasn’t made up his mind on Thomas returning to juniors and thus is sitting him to give himself more time to decide, then Thomas needs to be playing. It’s not just that Thomas has more potential than Sundqvist, it’s that Thomas is already a better player than him</div></div>
Ok. So then where would Thomas be playing with Fabbri back and Sandford being on the second line? If he plays, than it is only going to be on the 4th line (on a rotational basis) with having to split time with 2 other guys ( Barbashev and Sundqvist). He will get under 10 mins a night (he deserves more) as the roster is now crowded. It's unfortunate for him that he slots in as a 4th line player on this team.

I agree and I believe on a much lesser team, Thomas would be a top 6 player. But with multiple forwards coming back from injury (Fabbri and Soshnikov), and him not having having a point in the past 3 games and having only 1 assist in 6, I believe Yeo will go with the veterans over the rookie until an injury occurs or consistency fails one of our players.

Cap Hell-feedback appreciated-read description
I think that the roster for 2019-20 will be dictated on how they fare this 2018-19 year ( playoffs or on the outside) although....., Mcphee has been pretty aggressive, and I think some moves will happen regardless of where they are in the standings now that I think about it. I don't like the Stasny signing in that he still has multiple years left and is not worth the money. Patches is off to a slow start, but other that that, things are still looking up. I am guessing Mcphee will move some defense (Merril, Holden, or Engelland) when it is all said and done. Oh, I don't think Erik Karlsson will be part of the picture.

Man, the Blues have been throwing t 1st round picks around like they are nothing.... yet we always seem to trade for one at the draft!!! (Bokk and Kostin) Ha. I really like the original trade idea you had for the Blues, but not sure the Isles would take on Jay Bo other than to stay above the cap floor? Not sure where they are salary wise. I like this idea though.
On a side note, I really like that you have Soshnikov on the 4th line! Alot of folks even forget that he was on the team because of his injuries (though he is rehabbing now in the AHL). The guy is a checker and a pest, and when he played for us last year he was VERY noticeable. Good, gritty palyer (exactly what the Blues need) Good work all around.

I wonder if Dunn's benching has something to do with possible rumblings going on in the locker room...? or the exorbitant amount of pressure the teams has on it's shoulders to succeed, thus a quick change. Either way, Dunn should be playing in my opinion as well as I see nothing but upside stemming from raw potential. I pray he is scratched for no more than 5 games. :) At least Edmundson is back.

Trading Callahan
While it would be a blessing for the Lightning to shed some of that salary in trading Callahan, I just don't see it happening with the Rangers as I don't believe NY will be competing for a playoff spot for at least a few years now. Also, if Yanni Gourde has another season like he did in 17-18, it will be difficult to sign him for what you specified above. This would all be quite ideal for management if it went down this way though. :)

I know it's a rhetorical question, so yes, we will have to trade him. Foolish though by management. Why not just sign him for what he desires (apparently 11M) just to be safe and then trade him if the right deal comes around? They have enough cap atm, though we will see what Mark Stone gets through arbitration.
The trade value will still be the same as if the Sens didnt sign him because everyone is aware he is still going to ask for that amount from other teams I would assume...? What are your thoughts? Also, that Bobby Ryan contract...... the Sens have to shed that at some point.

I think I would be ok with that proposal, lets see where the two teams are after 4 months into the season. Blues could be knocking on the Leafs door earlier than expected in they suffer the same Offensive injuries they normally do.
On your question about Pietro or Parayko: It really isn't a question to me who the franchise Defensemen is. Pietro last year (15G 39A 54 pts) Colton played to about half that production, and he really didnt seem to progress like I thought he would. Pietro is the man!!! Thats not to say that Colton isnt going to get better, but for me there really isnt a value argument. And I think that would be the general consensus of the Blues faithful.

I think they could actually land Tanev for the price you state above. No joke as he is on the last year of his contract and the injuries have been a problem. I just don’t see the value in trades between two teams on the upswing where 1 side trades a good young player for 2-3 lesser pieces. (Kapanen + for parayko or Tanev + for Nylander)
Teams on the upswing looking to deal with each other for upper echelon talent need to make it a ‘hockey trade’ for either side to have any incentive to pull the trigger</div></div>
I agree for the most part, as a trade def needs to benefit both sides. Lets see where the Blues are down the road into the season, as they still have some major questions in net and might need to hold onto Parayko for defensive help. I think the Leafs have a better chance at nabbing a player like Tanev from the Nucks to fill in the gap at D. You guys might eveing be able to steal him away as Benning might be the worst GM in the league. You think Tanev would fit the Leafs style on D?
