Dont know much about Minnesotas goalie situation, but if you’re trading Dubnyk, does that signal a rebuild?

Pretty much. There isn't a better goalie on the trade/UFA market. The organization goalie depth is garbage.

A rebuild is much needed but unlikely bc of the Suter and Parise contracts. Minnesota can get a lot for their assets.

Not much needed (yet). They were a 100p team and riddled with injuries. Coyle, Nino, Parise, Suter all come back healthy and it's a solid top-6. Staal is still a 1C. Give it another shot this year, and see where you are at the TDL. Barring a complete falloff of the players their trade value at the TDL shouldn't be any lower and maybe even higher than it is now.

I don't mind a trade or two that get a little younger and with somewhat of an eye to the future, but stay away from the high priced rentals (EK, Panarin, Patches, etc).

19-20 season could be the selloff season, lots of expiring contracts for quality players that year. The Wild are due for a transition year shortly. Belprdio, JEE, Greenway, Kaprizov, Kunin, Seeler (maybe a Sokolov steps up) need to take over the team from Koivu, Parise, Suter in a way that the 2010-12 draft hasn't.

We have 4 goalies in the organization as of today.

- Dubnyk
- Alex Stalock
- Kaapo Kähkönen who is 22 and just came over from Europe. He will be in Iowa for a couple years at least.
- Déreck Baribeau who is 19 and was an undrafted UFA signing last year. He's still a couple years from Iowa.

That's it. No unsigned draft picks or anything like that. Two of our goalies in the minors last year (Svedberg and Vay) left for Europe after we said we wouldn't sign them. We also didn't give a QO to our Iowa backup from last year, Steve Michalek who was pretty bad.

Just wondering, what do you think the Wild need to pass the first round?

We've gotten to the 2nd round before, The issue has been making it past that.

I think we played well this year when the refs called the occasional penalty. In game 3, they called things tight (by playoff standards) early in the first and it set the tone for the rest of the game which we won easily and basically scored at will. Outside of that game, our major problem lately in the playoffs has been our scoring. Excluding game 3 against the Jets, we only scored 3 goals in 4 games this year. Against the Blues in 2017 we scored a total of 8 goals in 5 games. Dubnyk played great in both series but you can't get very far if the options are shutout or lose the game. Parise looked great in both series (5 goals in 8 games) but not many other players did. If we can either get someone who produces well in the playoffs or get our own guys going the way they do in the regular season, we could make a good run provided we don't have another injury plagued season from hell again.

A different team. sarcasm The Wild are setup to be a quality regular season team, but can't/don't play a physical game. Outside of Parise and the 4th line they don't have the FWDs that willing goto the dirty areas, so they just hover around the perimeter. Brodin (at least he can clear the crease) and Spurgeon have no physical game at all. They get exposed vs physical teams.

They pulled the worst team they could as a 1st round draw last year. I still think if they were the WC that played in the West they would have been in at least the WCF. They matched up very well vs everyone in the West except the Avs and Jets.
