Description
Rumors are Chicago would move the #8 if a team would take Hossa's contract. Opportunity awaits. Last NHL.com Draft shows Whalstrom would be expected to go #8 to Chicago and I think Detroit couldn't pass that up if he was still available.

I selected all 5 picks Detroit has in the first 2 rounds, but only two would crack the roster in year 1. I entered them in the order they would be selected.

Would the Hawks give us their #8 pick if we took Seabrook for helm? So helm for Seabrook and #8 pick

Just going on what a Blackhawks website is publishing.. I guess they could put him on Long Term IR, but apparently its a "priority" in Chicago to move his contract & Chicago is the team most likley to move their #8. Does it pair together? I dont know. I totally get where a Hawks fan would want to say no... But if the Hawks are trying to make something happen and its a solid rumor, then its possible.

They are not saying they want to move the #8 and Hossa for late round picks...at least nobody would be laughing at your suggestion if you proposed two 2nds and Hossa for the #8 pick...Hossa only costs a team $1m a year in actual dollars. What reports have said is the Hawks would be willing to move down from the #8 spot to the middle of the first, such as doing a trade with the NYI...give them 8 for their 11th and take on Hossa since they have plenty of cap space.

Ok so Detroit gives up two second round picks in the deal instead of the 3rd and 4th rounders to make it happen. Thats what negotiation is. I can tell you value Hossa a little too much, so it irks you a bit. He was a great player in his day, no doubt. But this is a business. Detroit knows all to well what happens when you give contracts to people without looking at the business aspects (length and amount)... On the flip side, The Islanders have cap space, but need to spend it wisely to keep Tavares. They have $28M and need to sign (Im being conservative here in dollars) a Backup goalie ($1-2M), Nelson ($3M), Tavares ($11M), Need 3-4 other forwards to round out roster ($3M minimum), DeHaan ($3M), Hickey ($2M). So this is $24M of your $28M available with me being conservative. They have to bring in someone to help Tavares, so adding a puck moving defenseman or another solid winger would help. OR BOTH... Either way, The Islanders are NOT a team willing to bury some contracts when they are trying to court Tavares. If they lose Tavares, maybe the story is different.

Not saying it gets a deal done, it gets a conversation going with others on this website though with 2 2nd round picks and they both need to be early 2nd round picks. Like I said though, the Hawks are looking for a 10-15 1st round pick to move Hossa in exchange for the #8OA.

What irks me? Hossa is out on injured reserve and has to retire...nothing irks me about that, he would still be playing if he could. His cap hit can be put on LITR so no team will take on more then a about $200k hit but you can't put him on LITR until the season begins...that hamstrings the Hawks to not being able to use a portion of that cap money in the offseason...the way that works out is about $3M of it. It's a long explanation to explain because the rule is complicated. But with a team up against the cap like the Hawks, that $3m in space right now is important to a degree but at the end of the day, Hawks just put him on LITR day one and do a acquisition after the season starts. This is what they did with Cody Franzen last year.
