Brassard is almost as good as Malkin. Malking missed game one against Washington, and the Pens won. This team totally still contends, has better wingers, and adds a first round pick next year to stay competitive longer. Totally good deal from all those viewpoints.
Harder to market without a long time star, though, so it doesn't happen, IRL.

And then making an even WORSE trade after that.... Giving up all that for a backup goalie that they don't need. Desmith is cheaper and gets the job done and don't have to waste draft picks. Even if you trade desmith you still have jarry as a good cheap backup without spending draft picks.
I can understand some justification for the first trade but the second one makes 0 sense.

brassard is not even close to malkin. yay a late pick next year no thanks at least make it this years pick come on. based on one game we should trade malkin ,excellent logic. it doesn't happen cause its absolutely an insult to pens fans.

none of give/return makes sense, 0 parts of the second one make sense, the first one doesn't make sense because of the return for what you give up, concept wise it isn't as bad as the second.
