Nobody will realistically want Lucic. He's a guy who was never the most fleet of foot and as we all know the game is only getting faster. His NMC and term are really gonna make him tough to move unless the Oilers sweeten the pot. Vegas might be willing to do something here, they take half priced Lucic, freeing up EDM from having to protect him from SEA, however they have to give up their top prospect and a high pick. McPhee is very good at holding other teams ver the barrel as the expansion draft showed... Also Vegas won't lose a player to SEA so they can live with the NMC

There's no way 3M retained and Yamamoto and tenth pick.. when they could just buy himout and just have little less cap 3-4 years down the road. Potentially they could just keep him til CBA and see if there's free buyouts again since its very doubtful he will be as bad as last year.

10 years. He has 5 years left so buyout would be spread over 10 years.

Probably the best move, yes. The point is nobody will want Lucic unless EDM makes it worth someones while.

Not the best example, but look at what bad contracts like Clarkson cost CBJ to get VGK to take them and Clarkson only cost VGK money, Lucic on the other hand is gonna be playing for them

I know how buyouts work .. 3M retention is about equal to his retention for next 2 years, years 3 thru 5 are bad but cap will be higher and managable then the 5 years after that are very low since no bonuses. Trading 2 futures for couple million relief in years 3 thru 5 isnt worth it with expansion draft coming.

I agree. I would rather just keep Lucic then do this deal. I also think if the Oilers retained 2-3M per year there would be more teams then a person thinks wanting him.
